Oh yeah I know. There was no true stereo back then. Listen to "Meet The Beatles" or "Yesterday And Today". All that shit was panned all over the place and not necessarily in a good way.vurt wrote: Thu Nov 22, 2018 6:53 pmseriously though, listen to some of the early beatles stuff, that's how it is, don't forget most playback systems at home where mono, so that's just how it was recorded.
even on revolver, theres some heavy assed panning going on.

First time I actually ever listened to this in stereo.
Drums are all on the right. If I did this today I'd be crucified. LOL.

indeed, this went weird overboard.
i do encourage a little off center accents in music
to give a listener what humans enjoy in life.... little
surprises. but it can not be all surprises one after another.
it soon becomes chaotic and confusing, if so. Therefore
we mix in some order with melody and structure to balance
it out.

wait a minute, this bass panned to the right is numbing my right ear.
lets pan it to the center along with the kick drum so both ears get numb!

I was digging some Herbie Hancock band with Mike Clark on drums. It was as funky as it gets, while he was doing very surprising accents. I wasn't counting but it probably summed to 8 or 16.
See, I'm very into odd timings, this is just a stumbling effect like tripping over something in stride.

If this is Paradise, I'd hate to think what Purgatory or any of the lower realms sound like.
I guess tracks like this are the reason threads like the one below exist:

Какую предпочитаешь, Столичную или Путинку?
Well, as I currently don't have proper acoustic control and I'm always struggling with mixing my own stuff I'm not really entitled to give comments on anyone's else mixing. But in this case it's pretty apparent that the mix is bad, if it were good it would sound good at any system. As someone else said, it's almost painful to listen to.
But somehow I see a musical value in it (assuming that it's not some chopped premade loops put together but everything was acually programmed or played by the OP), at least I think I understand what is was supposed to be. Probably something like this, except that these examples actually have proper structure, arrangement and mixing
The problem with music like this is that it may seem random and chaotic but it actually isn't. I think it takes years of producing more "normal" stuff to be able to make actually good tracks with similar feel.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Hey guys, hope you had a good Thanksgiving. This was an old file that I threw up three months ago on FutureProducers and had a couple nice complements. Since then, I have gone WAY further with it, but haven't shared. When I work, I do thousands of instances where I grab sounds from an earlier version of whatever I'm working on and layer it onto the new sounds.recursive one wrote: Fri Nov 23, 2018 9:39 amКакую предпочитаешь, Столичную или Путинку?![]()

This one like I said is a much earlier version that I happened to look back on and thought to myself, "shit, I could release this one alone." Yes it took a lot of work even to get to that point. No one else seemed to like it here. I'll post what I have done since three months ago, by tonight. And probably another song, too.

I had to listen to this again thinking maybe I was in a bad mood. Maybe my ears were tired. I had to understand what it was the OP was hearing in this.
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on what will be a purely technical analysis, leaving my personal feelings out of this.
The first 2 minutes of the track it sounds like the OP has a low pass filter on the whole thing and it's cranked down so far that it sounds like the track is almost under water. Hardly anything seems to be passing through. It doesn't sound muddy. Just very muffled. Is that a fairly accurate description?
From 2 minutes on, we get a high synth sound come in. The track starts to brighten up a little but still has moments where the low end seems muffled. The volume is also very low on this track.
Finally, the melody in the comp seems to go between two notes back and forth. Haven't checked them out on the keyboard to see what they are (and I don't have perfect pitch) but they're the same two notes over and over. The top line is also minimal and has very little movement. It does give the impression of a loop played over and over with little variation.
Now my personal observations.
Maybe some people like this. I think the piece could be much better if the low end was allowed to breathe a little bit without all that apparent filtering that seems to be choking the sound. In addition to that, raise the volume a bit and have a little more variation in the rhythm and top line and this may not be such a bad track. But as it stands now, there's just not much to this. So I am curious to know what exactly it is that the OP hears in this track. I am usually very open minded when it comes to music (rap and reggae are the only two genres I can't stand) but I'm just not hearing anything here musically and production wise, it's poor.
Am I wrong? Am I crazy? Have my ears totally lost all sense of tonality and this is some amazing piece of work? I really want to understand what the OP hears.
