Explorer navigation pane on - make every folder on desktop have this on - how to make individual?

Going mental over this, Windows 7 in this case.
Found this for Vista but no such alternatives "Like Current" or "Remember folder..." stuff what I can find.

Settings between Details view and Icon view is individual and kept for desktop folders. But navigation pane follow last setting used in Explorer - and make me nuts.

On XP Explorer open with details view, and navigation open as well. But folders on desktop keep Icon view and no navigation pane - perfect.

On 2 Windows 7 machines, I have the issue where navigation follow Explorer - not kept.

Registry hack needed of some sort, or?
