Well, the 12.9 has shipped and is on its way to me, but while I have been waiting a problem has reared its head.

It appears to have a serious latency problem, possibly related to the new graphics setup:

I am not sure what I will do when it arrives.

Glad I don't use it for audio at all...

I have yet to experience this on my 2nd gen iPad Pro, either on iOS 10 or the current iOS 11 beta, so I wouldn't just assume the worst.

I would suggest you assume the best, the Audiobus forum is not the most reliable source of intelligence.

Well, the iPad arrived early, late yesterday PM.

The problem is there, in both 10 and 11 beta. Within 5 minutes of using Beatmaker 3 I had crackling and latency. Unplugging the headphones and reconnecting fixes it.

Not had it long enough yet to investigate in more detail. The current 'solution' is to wipe the RAM and do the headphone thing at the start of a session, when some report hours of use without a problem, and others not.

I will report back.

Is this issue exclusive to Beatmaker 3? I haven't used it. I work primarily in Korg Gadget, Notion, Cubasis, SidTracker64 and various standalone synths and drum machines. Not once have I had to re-plug my headphones and don't experience any latency or audio crackles. I have the 2017 10.5" iPad Pro. Are people reporting this only on the 12.9"?

Post

People are reporting it in both models. I can replicate running iSpark standalone. Within 3 minutes I can detect latency. Others report it with GarageBand, but I haven't tried that yet.

Post

Only a problem with the mike port? I use lightning to audio, is that affected too?

Post

Some say yes and some say no. People have agreed to test more thoroughly on the AudioBus forum.

I've been running into issues with my new 12.9 too. At first I thought a few of the apps needed updating but now I'm not so sure. I had iMS20 running a sequence and after a minute or two steps get missed, then it seems to drop timing, pretty useless for any live work. Last night I had Cubasis running using two instances of micrologue (or whatever their built in synth is) and a simple drum track. Seem to run ok. I then added an audio track a fed it with Geoshred. Not even a minute and I would start getting crackles. Very disappointing. This just using the built-in speakers. No headphones involved.

My wife has my previous 12.9 which is about a year older. I'm going to try the same setup on it and also on an iPad 4 and see what happens. All of these are on iOS 10.3.3

I just discovered they don`t null, ah sorry, wrong thread...

So I revisited the Cubasis issue and set its latency to medium and then tried Geoshred again...no glitches so far. Tabletop however was glitching and shutting down on me. I deleted it and trying a fresh install to see how that goes...

Really weird thing with the latency which would be a no-go for me.
There are good deals on new iPads Pro´s her now (close to €100 in some configurations) but that the issues have to be solved first. So i would wait until iOS 11 and the new iPhones and see what happens.
Is anyone using one of the 2017 macbook pro´s here for music production. There are even better deals (up to €500 less compared to buy from Apple) and i would be in for one but i´m a bit scared they might have a similar issue (at least i read or hear nothing about it yet).
