+1 I also think that freehand not fully used ... pencil can be very much in the RC!

The way the app Liguid rhythm has implemet it is very smart, it uses a rhythm track as a reference for drawing not only melody phrases but harmonic phrases as well.

The Pizzicato music composition software also has that free-hand melody drawing capability, too:

+1 Sundog Scale Studio. I cannot believe I forgot about the Pattern Trigger editor in Sundog.

If you happen to own both RC and Sundog, then you are suitably equipped with a veritable arsenal for music development.

The song parts you create with Sundog can be dragged/imported as MIDI data into RC for further refinement and exploration.
