Recording Audio and comp groups

In Waveform it's possible to enable loop recording and the comp group will be created automatically until you hit stop. However, there doesn't seem to exist a mode where I could record/overdub on tracks so that successive takes (rec => stop) on the same track would be saved as individual takes on the same comp group just like on the loop recording mode. So I wish that kind of automatic grouping mode (take versioning mode) selection would be introduced for Waveform. If there is a workaround for that please let me know.

Hello, I've just registered to say that for me it's the most desired feature which is not present (?) in Waveform now. IMO it could work just like in Reaper: you can mix punch in with loop mode and new takes are automatically added to the takes already present on the active track/tracks.

For those working mostly with audio recordings it's very handy.

Could you be so kind and let us know if you ever considered to expand the audio recording features as described in the posts above?

I feel - maybe I'm wrong - that Waveform is used more often for it's MIDI features, so maybe it is not so important for majority of users. But if you record for example fast and complicated rhythm guitar parts or solos in parts or many vocal takes/overdubs etc. where corrections are a must, having such possibilities is a time saver.

The reason we've focused on MIDI so much over the past couple of releases is that about 3-4 years ago there was a lot of noise about how deficient the MIDI capabilities were. We listened and made them much better.

It's probably about time that we turned some attention to audio but we've got no immediate plans for this so probably won't surface until early next year at the earliest.

One tip you might find useful if you have clips on separate tracks that you want to comp together, select them all and from the properties panel choose "Create Comp". That will render them in to a new comp-clip.
(You can also do this with MIDI clips if they pass through a synth, they'll be rendered to audio)

Thanks, I understand and really appreciate the new MIDI features - they are one of the reasons why I use Waveform.
And yes, I know the trick with "Create Comp".

Hi there,

I know this comment is quite old, but any chance you can tell me where to find "Create Comp?" I haven't found it in Properties.

Thanks!

@goldeneagle I'm on version 12 ( so can't be sure when this changed ) and it seems just the naming convention has changed, so with 2 or more clips selected you will see the option 'Pack clips to takes' in the properties panel.

edit/ If you are doing a looped recording which will create multiple layers, just click on the + icon that is newly created on the clip which opens up a menu and choose ' show takes '

Specifically, in the lower right corner of the looped clips. It can be hard to see on some monitors.

I don't believe I've ever seen "Create Comp" anywhere in Waveform.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.
