Most DAWs has it, why Bitwig don't? :(

IMHO this is the faster way of creating drums, and for me speed is crucial in music production. I hope you think the same.
And for the drumloops market/creators it will be the "go to" DAW.

And I also think that the Bitwig's devs can come with something like this in a blink of the eye... I am right? lol, I hope so. :D

So, @Dom/Volker... have you ever think on create something like this for Bitwig?

For now, I just want two things (the most) in Bitwig: a step sequencer and a better note editor.

Now if someone has a magic trick to make this image to work, please PM me. :hihi:

Voted for no - duplicated functionality of detail editor in hide irrelevant notes mode. Only missing thing are ghost/linked clips.

To be honest, I agree with nsq, I feel like step sequencers are quite limited. What would be ideal would be a revamp of the piano roll that enables you to effectively work like in a step sequencer (e.g. hold down Alt and now left clicks/right clicks work like Fruity Loops style or something), but still with the possibility to move things off the grid where you desire. Being limited to bang on the grid is very restricting IMO.

i like the little mock up you did, i would want one but i don't think it should be the main focus

Something like this might be possible to create with the modular system when v2 comes out. If that's the case I don't think the devs are gonna wanna spend their time on it. They created that system just so people could make their own plugs and not have to depend on them or third parties for everything..

Personally I don't really see what it could bring to Bitwig ...maybe if it could keep in memory many patterns that you could select and then drag and drop to the arrangement...

I'm sure when Bitwig will open the hood someone will make a step sequencer....

But for now....

by me step sequencer will be a modular device avaiable later ( it's easy to do)

now it will be cool chaos optoion works on all vst/instrumen devices

Yea i think you guys are right, someone could just build one in 2.0! and i like Jolaffs example of a work around, its probably more flexible than a step seq. too!

Yes, after thinking about it, we already can emulate a step secuencer with ease, as jolaff did. Now I dont even want it lol

What???

Can't believe people voted no... why on earth would you vote no?

Options/ways of doing something, are always a good thing... if you like to work slower that's fine, simply don't use it...
I put the "no" option just to be fair, never thought people would vote on it..

It seems like many people are not familiar with step sequencers...
The "hide irrelevant notes" option is not even close of the speed of a real step sequencer.

Bitwig needs this... just like cubase and sonar before adding it.

Perhaps it is very low on peoples priority. Especially when something like it already exists, even though they take much longer by pressing the mouse button twice.

Can't speak for anyone else, but as a really big fan of step sequencers and hater of piano rolls, the main thing to me is just not mousing stuff in. A mouse-controlled step sequencer is pretty useless IMO, if not a real hardware one you at least need total control over it from Lemur on an iPad or whatever.

I'd really love to see some native, non-piano roll sequencing stuff, whether traditional step-sequencer or otherwise, built into Bitwig. It shouldn't go down in the device area, it should get dropped onto the timeline and clip launcher and basically be a piano roll alternative that you can freely mix with normal piano roll stuff.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Nah, just give us proper midi routing and I'll have all the step sequencing I'd ever need. :D

Well, the question was "do you want" a step sequencer, so people who voted no are just people who are not interested. And of course everything the devs do takes time. I'd rather they spend it on other stuff.

I voted no for 3 reasons...

1st, I have VST step sequencers that satisfy my needs

2nd, that step sequencer you mocked up is so simplistic that I would never use it anyway...

3rd, Bitwig needs so much stuff that is far more important, that I would not want the Dev's to waste their time on a half baked implementation. I have lots of step sequencers that need manual mouse input. IMO, that method is dead. It is clumsy, slow and painful to use compared to using my Push. If Bitwig is going to do a step sequencer, it needs to be usable mouse free and have per step parameter modulation (parameter locks).
