Easily switchable pickups

Hi peeples.

So, I'm wondering if such technologies exist: letting you switch guitar pickups easily, without soldering. The only thing I have seen myself is this:


The guy carved out spots in guitars for wooden blocks to go in, on which the pickups are placed. He made many blocks like this, so he may achieve a different sound in the matter of seconds just by taking out and inserting different blocks with pickups.

The idea for this came when I wanted to record a desired sound for different songs: here cleaner, there hotter and more vintage.

So is something simpler than this exists, letting you change pickups faster and without soldering? This is for my Stratocaster.

Without buying a different guitar?

I have seen a few kits for strat where the pick guard has different pickup and switch combinations and all you need to do is screw in the new pickguard.

If you wanted to do this with other types of guitars your best bet might be to put sockets on the end of the pickup wires which would connect to another socket which would be wired up to the appropriate controls.

I’ve seen quick change pickups but went the pedal route instead and picked up a Keyztone EXchanger pedal. It’s a pickup modeler. Puts your signal to as flat as possible and then re-EQ’s it to one of 9 different types. Works well for what it says it can do and zero effort really. Just dial the pedal in to your pickup and choose a new model. It was just what I needed since my guitars are all favorites and only looked at new guitars for different pickup configurations. Now I still play my favorite guitars but with new sound of different pickups.
