New Beta is up click >>> here <<<

Hi everyone,

We do as we always do. Here's the public beta version of our upcoming Repro-1 synthesizer:

Image

This is our first emulation of a specific synthesizer. It's a mono synth from 1982 which happened to be the first analogue synth keyboard I laid hands on. It's a quirky little bugger with a lot of character and a cleverly laid out feature set. I think, out of all vintage analogue mono synths this one has the right blend of features - it's neither too restricted nor too confusing. Plus, it has a sequencer with two patterns.

Most importantly though its circuitry is tailored around a set of analogue chips which provide for some quite uncommon properties, starting with how the waveforms mix, how the filter distorts and how the envelopes snap. We've spent and awful lot of time and brains to get this right. And I think we got amazingly close and detailed with this.

While our job isn't done - i.e. some "tweak presets" and large parts of the factory library are still missing - we would like to invite everyone to check this out and give us some feedback. As is our usual modus operandi, we've put it up for sale with a special intro price during this beta phase. We hope to release this by end of November, details and progress will be announced in this thread.

Enjoy,

- Urs & team

#-------------

Need to knows:

  • It's an emulation of a classic mono synth. It's strictly monophonic - no poly or unison switch!
  • We have not added much - just as much as it needs to be a plug-in
  • Okay, we added some nice effects and a small ModMatrix
  • The final version will have a lot more presets
  • This version is very stable
  • It always processes - we will try to bring CPU down a bit more, maybe even offer a stand by, but we can't promise yet
  • The parameter layout may change a little, try to automate as few parameters as possible
  • There is no FX or I/O version yet. We're having trouble doing this, so we are not sure if and in which form this is gonna happen
  • Read The User Guide!!! (A few things are not up to date, but all in all it's got invaluable information)

Mac version: Repro-1_5107_Mac.zip (AAX/AU/NKS/VST2/VST3)

Win version: Repro-1_5107_Win.zip (AAX/NKS/VST2/VST3)

Linux version: Repro-1_5279_Linux.tar.gz (VST2)

Documentation: User Guide (WIP) (work in progress, some features have changed)

System Requirements: MacOS X 10.7+, Win 7+, reasonably fast processor.

Here is a temporary serial number for Repro-1:

User Name: "Beta Tester"
Serial Number: "V9574-NOL2Q-FUIUA-GQG8"

This serial will be valid until the end of 2016.

If you can't wait and/or if you wish to take advantage of the intro offer, here's a link to buy Repro-1 from our shop:

Buy Repro-1 for 69$ (+ VAT in EU) (final price will be 99$ (+ VAT in EU), once officially released)

Before you buy: If you own all u-he plug-ins including ZebraHZ you should have received an email about Repro-1. If you didn't, please contact support at u-he dot com - we might have a little surprise for you!

Update: Info for those who have almost everything and think about completing their u-he collection to get Repro-1 for free (uh, that was the surprise)

(off for some champagne with the crew)

Hey the oscillator sync is wonderful on this thing!

Edit: as is sending distorted, breaking up filter screams though uber-long really wet drenches... 8)

Is the Pro One the little brother of the Prophet 5?

Sort of, yeah, it's a monosynth derived from a single Prophet-5 voice, but it has it's own charms...

You can call it that, but more accurately it's the mono synth in the line-up. Back in the day, mono synths were very popular and in previous years, the only financially feasible choice people had. Doing poly AND patch storage was very expensive and in many cases you could easily get by with a mono. So the Pro-One wasn't not intended to be the little brother of the P5 but rather live along side it as another option. It used a similar voice architecture of the P5 based around the same Curtis chips set as the rev3 P5 (earlier rev P5's used the SSM chip set). The Pro-One has always been a favourite synth of mine. Back in the early 90s they could be had for around $100 and I had 4 of them at one point. I've since sold them all, my 2 P5s and my P10. But I did retain a minimoog at least :)

So who's gonna be the first to do a YouTube demo of the Stranger Things theme using just the Repro-1, then, eh... :)
