Post

Hello world,

as you might know, we are in the process of updating all u-he plugins to include native ARM support for the new Apple Silicon chips.
This will naturally also bring full Big Sur compatibility, as well as many under the hood improvements and fixes.

But before we can release them, we need you to take them for a good ride out in the wild.
There's still plenty of polishing to do, but we thought it's time for you to already start testing a bunch of plugins.

So here's round 01, with more to follow in the coming weeks:

Satin beta 11152 Mac
Satin beta 11152 Win

Sorry, no Linux versions at this moment, we hope to have new Linux versions in the coming weeks, but can't give an ETA for those right now.

As these are betas, it might be a good idea to backup your existing installations before installing the update (just in case).

The most burning question is, obviously, how well do they perform on the new M1 ARM Macs?
If you own one of these fine machines, then definitely take them for a spin and let us know how it goes.

But please also test them if you don't own an ARM Mac (or any Mac at all).
Let us know about anything you might find noteworthy.

There is one important known issue:
On Mac, to avoid some unexpected, temporary CPU surges, please deactivate the automatic brightness adjustment of your display (sounds spooky, and it is).
You will find this option in your Mac's preferences, in the Display settings.

No big changelog available yet, just a few notes:

* issue with display brightness adjustment on Mac
* no Linux versions atm
* no AAX versions
* 32bit Mac support dropped
* manuals not updated yet
* version numbers not updated yet
* multicore support is not optimized for ARM
* ColourCopy scope effects (eco, fast, glow) are broken

* Diva: problem with the arpeggiator causing stuck notes is fixed
* Diva: strict host sync button available in GUI
* Repro: mod matrix modifiers now available in the GUI
* Bazille: Gearporn skin got some refinements and new tagthispatch window
* all plugins come with bank names (when using NKS, please rescan the NKS library after updating)

That's it for now, have fun, and let us know what you find.
Cheers,
Tas

nice!

The text in the Bazille menus is not vertically aligned in the box... (gearporn skin) depends on the size setting...

Looks like Diva lost support for custom fonts in skins in this beta. At least on Windows. The fallback Lucida Sans font is now used instead.

Hi, thanks for letting us help with the beta.

I just installed all, and found the installer (on Mac) does 'see' that, for VST, I have all my u-he stuff in a subfolder (called 'u-he'), and it writes the respective VST's actually there (not many plugin installers do this), so hurray!

But for VST3 it does not, weird! 😉

So for VST3 I have to move them afterward into the subfolder called 'u-he'.

Which I have to do for most other brands anyway, so no real problem, but I was surprised by the ambiguous behaviour here.

Ugh. That's entirely possible since we're trying to implement a way to get rid of "tofu" with font substitution on Windows. Our current attempts have been dead ends, and maybe something broke. I hope we can bring it back easily, otherwise it'll have to wait until we can completely refactor our UI drawing on Win just like we did on Mac.

Oh wow! Time to buy color copy.

Hehehe, you should probably not do that because IIRC some hosts won't find VST3 plug-ins in subfolders. (I may be wrong, but that's how it used to be)

In VST2 we already put everything into a "u-he" subfolder anyway, we always did.

Which third party skin are you using? Would be good to know when we check the problem.

Additionally, once you install an update, and forget to move the plugin, you will end up with two versions of the VST3 plugin.
And some hosts really don't like that, and might only display one of them, or none.

From what I have: Reaper, FL20, Live 10/11, Bitwig, Studio One, Cakewalk, none of them have a problem with this whatsoever. Which leaves, I guess, Cubendo as a possibility to be anal about it, but I'm not sure.

Actually I'm sure. Surge installs its VST3 in a subfolder (VST3\Surge Synth Team\Surge.vst3), and we had zero Cubase users complain about Surge not being scanned or available in Cubase, so... I guess it's all good!

Oh, there's also Digital Performer... I don't have that, dunno how it behaves.

I'm using Diva Redux. And I double checked, custom fonts are working in previous Diva version (1.4.4 9709), but not in this beta.
