Did the Mastering Engineer ruin the Collection? A lot of music I like from the olden days has been destroyed by inappropriate loudness maximizing etc.

The levelling has suffered slightly, during the re-mastering, but it's not really any worse than re-mastered albums by other Prog artists during the same timeframe. It's noticeable, but not unlistenable.
You can check the Dynamic Range DB here, although some of the year classifications are questionable/dubious.
I didn't really listen to any Yes music from 1985 to 2005. I moved overseas and left most of my music collection at home. I bought this compilation in about 2008 and immediately noticed that the version of "And You and I" was different to what I expected. It turns out that "And You and I" and "Ritual" were both "alternate versions" although this was not annotated in the sleeve notes by Chris Welch, or in the CD track listings. The sleeve notes themselves also state that The Yes Album was from 1972, which is incorrect.
This all reminds me that I need to do some setup work on my turntable. The belt needs replacing and the tracking needs looking at. The cartridge/stylus is fine, so it shouldn't cost much to sort out.
