If we are counting Netflix TV, then
The Iron Fist soundtrack - Trevor Morris who also composed the music for Emerald City and many films. Predominantly synth.

In the Nursery's been doing lots of film scores of late.
After Great Pain from the early 90's remains one of my favourites.

Absolutely! Love it!
My favourites are the Kitaro and Schulze tracks
My suggestions:
Another great Michael Mann movie; Thief - Tangerine Dream
Witness - Maurice Jarre

I can't understand why only once was Chariots of Fire mentioned. This can be just some snobbery attitude for the fact that it won the Oscar. But it is, in fact, a great soundtrack. As are, generally speaking, all of Vangelis soundtracks. 1492 wasn't mentioned either, neither was Antarctica - just Blade Runner... really?
Anyway, many of the greatest synth soundtracks I heard came from TV series. Cosmos (the first series, by Carl Sagan) comes to mind almost immediately. Sure, the music wasn't originally written for the series, but it fitted wonderfully).
Then there is Opéra Sauvage (by whom? Right, the master himself). But there are other series that I saw that also had fantastic soundtracks. These in particular:
Living Planet (BBC - Richard Attenborough), with music by Elizabeth Parker;
L'Aventure des Plantes - a french series with music by Joël Fajerman.
Silk Road - perhaps the best moments of Kitaro - it made four albums.
Babylon 5 - not very well known, but Chris Franke was always a favourite of mine. The soundtrack for the movie The Celestine Prophecy also worths mention (a masterpiece of New Age meditative style)
Twin Peaks (music by Angelo Badalamenti) - who doesn't remember THAT theme?
My modest contribution...

I'm not so focused on strictly synths I really noted what was 'a film score with synths in it' apparently. I remember The Shining used a fair amount of Wendy Carlos synthesizer music but elsewhere it's some already established 'serious music' which puts me in mind of Kubrick gets a temp score going, falls in love with it and f**k all y'all (cf., 2001 A Space Odyssey). My impression of the Carlos parts of the score is vague so I can't call it a fave. Oh wasn't she the one on, what's that 80s movie where we go inside a video game type of thing. TRON. Hadda look it up! Yeah, no. Ok in that search I'm reminded of Cronenberg eXistenZ with a Howard Shore score. That works for me. Did he use synths? I have no idea.
I'm actually not a big fan of Vangelis and I don't care at all for Chariots of Fire. Although I liked it at the time. I keep forgetting it's Vangelis on Blade Runner, actually, I have some other composer I can't put my finger on in mind and I've looked it up a couple of times.

The one that always comes to mind for me are the ethereal bits Pray for Rain did for the Sid and Nancy soundtrack. The 2 best are in this clip that someone put together. Around the minute mark is the song Taxi to Heaven. Haunts me to this day.

Tron soundtrack is fantastic. I didn't mention it because someone already had (or confused it with the soundtrack to Tron sequel, which was from Daft Punk, and not so good, IMO.jancivil wrote:... wasn't she the one on, what's that 80s movie where we go inside a video game type of thing. I think not everybody has to like it, but for me Vangelis is the number 1jancivil wrote: I'm actually not a big fan of Vangelis and I don't care at all for Chariots of Fire. Although I liked it at the time. I keep forgetting it's Vangelis on Blade Runner...
Regarding Ryuichi Sakamoto, the finest score, IMO, is Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, which I think wasn't mentioned either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF9_9MZyQGo

Yes, absolutely! I love his soundtracks.fmr wrote:....Vangelis soundtracks....
L'Apocalypse des animaux is just sublime. The mix of synths and acoustic sounds... so good.
I think that was Vengelis' main trade mark sound, the fusion of electronic and acoustic instruments. I miss that.

Speaking of Valngelis' soundtracks, so many good ones to choose from, but this particular piece from 1492 stands out for me in its understated grandiose poise, as well as this contemplative yet driven mood. It also has my favourite examples of musical use of ring-modulation. It's used to such an effect that every time I hear it I get goosebumps....so I try not to listen to this piece too often to savour that effect.
It's a long piece but worth a listen:
