The original Molot compressor by vlad added a lot of character and sounded great on the drum bus. You can still get it here for free - https://www.tokyodawn.net/vladg-molot-compressor/

They've updated it with a new TDR versions

Molotok, a simplified version of TDR Molot GE, is a musically characterful dynamics processor. Meaning “Small Hammer” in Russian, Molotok provides a rich range of exciting compression colors at your fingertips.

While Molotok doesn’t emulate any “vintage” device, its sound and behaviour was definitely inspired by their most interesting musical peculiarities. This flexibility makes it a rewarding choice for almost any source in the mix, be it drums needing more crisp and impact, solidification and enrichment of vocals, or the enhancement of guitar and bass recordings of all types.

Molotok relies on the same algorithms as its larger edition, Molot GE. As with all TDR plugins, Molotok employs state of the art audio processing technology keeping unwanted distortion under strict control. An intuitive and well documented user interface offers quick access to all relevant parameters in a rewarding manner. Several helpers such as unlimited undo/redo, optional stepped controls, inline help tips and many more features help the operator achieve consistent results within a short time.

Notable Features

Full featured dynamics compressor
Eleven musically intriguing compression flavour nuances
Different quality modes including zero-latency operation
High quality signal processing

Russian for “Hammer”, Molot is the name of a popular dynamic compressor originally released in 2011 by Vladislav Goncharov. With a modernized concept, extended flexibility, and a generous dose of Rock ’n Roll, Molot GE proudly takes over the job of its predecessor.

Molot GE is a particularly characterful dynamic range compressor melding several classic compression mechanisms with sophisticated saturation, creative tone control, and a snappy peak limiter. Whether it be mellow leveling, tight dynamic control, or aggressively vibrant compression, Molot GE covers a remarkable wide range of compression colors. While Molot GE doesn’t emulate any “vintage” device, its sound and behavior was definitely inspired by their most interesting musical peculiarities. This flexibility makes it suited for almost any source, be it drums asking for more crisp and impact, solidification and enrichment of vocals, or the enhancement of guitar and bass recordings of all types.

As with all TDR plugins, Molot GE employs state of the art audio processing technology keeping unwanted distortion under strict control. An intuitive and well documented user interface offers quick access to all relevant parameters in a rewarding manner. Several helpers such as the equal loudness bypass and trimming, unlimited undo/redo, optional stepped controls, and many more features help the operator achieve consistent results within a short time.

Notable Features

Musically intriguing compression flavours
Analog style brickwall limiter
Sophisticated saturation section
Creative tone control section
Dual-stage timing section offering control over auto-release behaviour
Feedforward and feedback compression types
Crossover based adjustable stereo link
Detailed colouration features such as negative ratios, sidechain phase rotation, and bit-crushing
Different quality modes including zero-latency operation
M/S mode with dedicated width controls
Equal loudness workflow, with equal loudness bypass and equal loudness trim
Pretty hyped, will be trying it out later.

The free version is not a Molot anymore.

It's more of a pero (перо)...

Never really clicked with the original Molot, but TDR plugins are always worth a try, and especially the Freebies are what you already pay solid money for elsewhere!

Tried the free one and the demo. Got a nice snappy sound to it. I found the dual stage controls on the GE a little confusing, and I couldn't hear what the phase rotator was doing on the highpass, so I'll be sticking with the free one as it sounds great.

I tried the free one and it's just like the description says: It has a wide variety of colors, because each control changes the color somehow. Really cool.

Very exciting! Will be upgrading my bundle.

Has anyone compared the phase-rotate feature on this with the Hilbert-detector of the Black Rooster KH-Comp1?
