"Here are my first 3 Impulses. They were made using Voxengo Deconvolver with the default settings for the "Test Tone". I sent the "Test Tone" out at a level of -45.0 dB through a Line Output of the Firepod and into the "Loop Return" of the Krank Revolution (just before the speakers started to distort at the low end). I am not sure whether the "Presence" Control has an affect when using the poweramp only and this was actually set on 7 (out of 10, didn't occur to me until after I had finished. I was too concerned as to not blow my speakers out of my cab at the time).

I have tested them out quickly and compared them to the Directly Mic'd cab and they are quite close. Slight Mids difference I think but very close (given it was a quick comparison and not the same performance). Anyway, I have read where Splatt says that you have to chop off the tail or you get echo's, I am not to sure what he is referring to, so they may need "that" done.

This has consumed quite a part of my day. I made 9 different wav's with various amounts of mic preamp gain which were deconvolved to both Normalised and non-Normalized Impulses (resulting in 18 Impulses) and tested them to check the differences. These are the Normalised ones. I had 3 Impulses made with the mic in each position ("Centre" is Centre of Dustcap, "Between" is between centre and edge of dustcap and "Edge is on the edge of the dustcap. All are with Mic AGAINST the Cabinet Cloth/Grill) with different mic preamp gain, once normalised I couldn't tell the difference. I tested the ones that had not been Normalised and they delivered various volumes according to their respective levels as I had expected but wanted to confirm.

When I was recording my RAW tracks I did a bit of a comparison and used my Cab as the Load for one set of quad-tracks and my THD Hotplate as the Load for another set of quad-tracks. So far I cannot tell the difference between the tone of the two sets. When using the Cab as the load and taking the signal from the Loop Send of the head there was still some sound from the cab. I was very surprised by this. I have had 2 Revolution heads and I am pretty sure that the first one did not output any sound when I had something plugged into the Send and nothing in the Return, especially since the Rev's have a Serial Effects Loop. I am not sure why this happened. It was quite a bit quiter, but I could hear it through the wall between me and my cab (Cab is in another room). Previous tests with the first head were done in the same room as the cab and I don't remember any noise from the Cab.

A MAJOR discovery was that when using a Mic-Instrument Input on the Firepod from the Loop Send the recorded RAW tone and Impulse Applied Tone was extremely un-natural and distorted sounding although the Clip LED didn't illuminate and the recorded waveform was far from clipping. When using a Mic-Line Input the best results were achieved although I couldn't get a "normal" input level even with the mic preamp level pegged. I generally aim for -10 to leave plenty of room for boosting EQ, etc..., I was much lower than this. I had the Amp Master on 3 which is where I normally have it when I mic the cab, I think this needs to be higher.

Anyway, I would appreciate some of you guys trying them out and giving some feedback. Please if you try them out, find some time for a response. If they turn out to be good, I can always make more and if they are bad I will try to improve them, so let me know please.

Contains:

OutdoorBlastoff- sounds like a concert 3000 miles away, so loud it explodes the sun. This sound is the crackle of a Space Shuttle takeoff, miles up in the atmosphere. Straaaaaange acoustic phenomena translate to an absolutely unprecedented reverb impulse. However, it's super bass heavy, so be careful

OutdoorStadium- football stadium. Unreasonably long, because this is a synthetic effect it has an extraordinarily clean tail- also on the bass heavy side. The synthetic impulses are NOT made with the Voxengo raytracer, I wrote dedicated software to generate them.

Plate (large, medium, small, super dry)- synthetic plates which I think are unusually good. A lot of this stuff is down to me being a mastering engineer and interested in soundstage depth- to me it's very important that reverb baths are DEEP.

Prime (long, medium, short, xtra long)- an entirely mathematical impulse except for a bit of Nyquist-frequency smoothing. Prime is the same technology that's in my BrightAmbience plugin, but without the gating effect: it's a impulse 'tick' sequence with prime number spacings, calculated in such a way that the output resembles white noise- except that, because of the mathematical characteristics of the prime sequence, the reverb is absolutely colorless for all lower frequencies (it does have a nasty ring for anything that actually reaches the Nyquist frequency, though). It's the ultimate giant glass chamber reverb.

RoomConcertHall- this is a synthetic Concertgebouw. Can be bass heavy, very orchestral quality.

RoomHuge- not kidding. Like a mammoth convention space. Synthetic for perfectly clean tail (again, not the Voxengo raytracer).

RoomLarge- giant drum room, not quite as huge as RoomHuge.

RoomMedium- big drum room, but small enough to be maybe more versatile. None of these rooms are bright like algorithmic verbs, they're pretty dark and distant.

RoomPool- Yes! Probably the most ultimate huge indoor pool impulse in the universe at this time. MONSTROUS and totally synthetic, so the tail is perfectly clean! Unlike the outdoor ones, this one has better controlled bass, so it can also be crushingly loud in the mix- but the ungodly length and sustain of it might make things awfully unmanageable. But in a good way

OK, have fun. I should use these more, now that I have one of the AU conv reverbs with the two output level trims remember, if these change your life and you become rich, famous and very distant, go buy some AU plugs from the link in my sig, they're 'go-buy-other-stuff-I-do-please-ware'

Without some exclusive technology (such as what I think the Nebula guys are using), you will have a really tough time cloning such a unit.
I mean, it's usually not a static impulse you want to capture from an EQ/channel-strip/filter.
So, think about how many useful positions each knob has. Let's start low-ish and say 30. Multiply by 30 for each knob. Assuming you probably don't need gain knobs in a digital emulation, let's assume you only want to capture 4 knobs (this is leaving out the switches already). That's 30 x 30 x 30 x 30 already. 810,000 impulses already. Add one single further parameter and the number doubles. Are you up to the task?
