Hey guys. Just started using Reaper. It's pretty good. Is Justin planning to still code everything by himself in the near future or will he hire staff?

Why? Are the updates not frequent enough?

It's Justin and John at the moment. There have been others. I think it's quite a while since it was only Justin working on it.

Justin and John.
There used to be that Jeffos guy, another audio genius.
Many moons ago, there was a guy called Christophe.
White Tie has always done the gui/UX stuff.
The sws was done by users, but served as a quasi RnD for reaper proper.

I would think that Justin would continue to add useful tidbits. Keep up with OS changes and fix an occasional bug.
That's cool with me.

Reaper has fantastic features and is rock solid. What the dev team needs is a Jony Ive type.

Dropping useful features in order to streamline the marketing? That's the antithesis of REAPER, it would destroy its identity.jonljacobi wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 11:20 pm Reaper has fantastic features and is rock solid. What the dev team needs is a Jony Ive type.

Well then, let's go.
Reaper differs from other DAWs in that it is a completely different concept.
With only two core developers working on it with intrinsic rather than
commercial motivation, Reaper is very lean and efficient.
While the usual DAWs can only be installed excessively large and bloated
with all the piping, Reaper is tiny, but still has an excessive number of
features and is usually more powerful in terms of performance than all
other DAWs.
Number of developers ...
The number of developers at Reaper is not that easy to tell. The core
developers are Justin and John. The GUI developer is "White Tie". The
handbook writer is Francis Geoffrey. But there are still around 20 script
developers and around 5 SWS coders. The support team consists of
around 100 members of the forum and, in my experience, is particularly
fast and efficient. If you now include the people in the forum who make
suggestions for product development and promote them in an advisory
capacity, you probably have to name at least 20 people again.
Viewed in this way, the entire "Team Reaper" consists of an estimated
number of 150 people. Reaper updates are made about every 3 weeks,
and from this alone you can see that Reaper is being developed further
in a high step sequence and very target-oriented.

I doubt that the OP meant anyone not on Cockos pay roll.enroe wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 7:22 am The number of developers at Reaper is not that easy to tell. The core

"Hiring" someone usually means that he's employed by the company then.
It's a nice fantasy anyway though. Not that it wouldn't hold true for any other DAW developing company out there as well though.

Yeah, cause there aren't any other one-man-show DAWs, right?enroe wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 7:22 am

Yes, yes, that may well be the case.
But the difference is this: Some are intrinsically motivated, while
others are only extrinsically motivated. That makes a big difference!
