cpu maxing out

i know there are a million threads on this, but i'm having a hard time finding an answer...i just got my receptor about a month ago to replace my 3.2GHz P4 laptop live. i'm starting to put my set up together, and already my CPU meter is spiking with only 1 instance of kontakt 2, guitar rig 1.2, and Pro-53 loaded.
even with the receptor just sitting there with no playing i have 2 bars on the cpu meter on the front screen. is that normal? at first i thought it was because i was running receptor remote at the same time so i restarted and didn't use that and it is still using quite a bit of Cpu just sitting there.
i am using 1.4 version of receptor, bought the colossus bundle.
i'm just surprised that the cpu is struggling so much, i'm sure i have a setting incorrect or something. i didn't think my laptop was THAT much more powerful than the receptor since i never had huge cpu usage on it running windows xp and even MORE plugins live.
so any help on some settings to try would be greatly appreciated. i have 1.25G of RAM and trying to run white grand jr, and 2 other small samples in kontakt (midi channels 1, 2, 3), and then pro 53, with guitar rig 1.2 on a master bus. want to eventually add a seperate instance of guitar rig for the guitar player to plug into, along with BATTERY for my drummer, but right now i'm thinking i'll be lucky if i can just run my own sounds without spiking the cpu.
thanks for any help.

I feel certain that Kontakt's DFD is your culprit. It eats the CPU alive. Do a test (Without the large piano sample) and instantiate these same instruments but turn DFD OFF in Kontakt2 and see if thay improves your situation.twwilso wrote:i know there are a million threads on this, but i'm having a hard time finding an answer...i just got my receptor about a month ago to replace my 3.2GHz P4 laptop live. i'm starting to put my set up together, and already my CPU meter is spiking with only 1 instance of kontakt 2, guitar rig 1.2, and Pro-53 loaded.

I did a stress test comparison between a Dell P4 3.2 and Receptor using FM7. The Dell (Sonar) could run less instances than Receptor before breaking up, but both ran many instances (like 9-12 can't remember exactly).
I'm not saying Receptor will be able to handle the kind of load you are suggesting, but I KNOW that it will handle more if you are not using NI's DFD. It's just not implemented well on Receptor, unfortunately.

Install the 1.5 final update, this should be released tomorrow. Increase your RAM to 2GB, this will make big difference in performace. I would recommend a matched set of DDR400/PC3200, it's more than Receptor can use but it buys you some headroom for RAM errors. DFD works fine for me unless I playing lots of voices with fast attacks. My current DFD setting for Kontakt2 are the following: Channel Buffer Size=120.00kbB;#reserved Channel Buffers=1024;Total DFD memory required=120.00MB. Make sure your Receptor is set to 44.1 at 128 as a starting point. If need to raise the buffer to 256.

Rick - Will try these settings, thanks.
Thus far, I have been unable to get any decent results using Kontakt DFD on Receptor. Note that I use it for piano, which means I need lots of voices with fast attacks, and that anything greater than 128 sample buffer is unusable.
DFD on Ivory works great, just not Kontakt.

Hi Rick,
We talked about DDR400/PC3200 the other day --
I was curious if CAS and timing ratings on this RAM was important?
eg. Should I look for:
Unbuffered
CAS Latency 2 (or 3)
Timing 2-3-2-6
(This seems to be how the Kingston higher-end RAM is rated)
Also, just curious, I think this memory is dual-port. Does receptor only use 1 port?
Thanks,
Kevin L
Thanks, Regards,

2ns is better than 3 but not real difference in the pair, you will hardly notice.
Buffered is for servers so I think youll need unbuffered.
