X-Forwarding

Since the Receptor runs with Linux I suppose that there is a Xorg-server running on the system. Is it possible to control the Receptor with X-forwarding through Ethernet? Is there some kind of shell or sshd on the Receptor to configure the X-forwarding?

The Receptor runs XFree86 4.2.0.

Yes and yes, but why? You wouldn't gain anything by forwarding the GUI through ssh. VNC uses an unencrypted protocol, and should be fast enough to control the GUI. If you tunnel through ssh you just add more CPU cycles doing encrytion and stuff.

Oh! I didn't know that Receptor uses VPN. I assumed that there is a proprietary system for accessing the Receptor via a second pc. Has anyone experiences in remote-controlling a Receptor with Linux? Does it work?

All you need is a VNC client, which are avalible for most platforms. Just do a Google search for "VNC client".

I use TightVnc all the time under Linux.

yep, i've used krdc to connect to receptor, no prob. you have to specify the desktop number, like this: 192.168.0.x:1 (where the 192...x bit is of course your receptor IP). the password for the vnc connection is, oddly, 'receptor' (it may or may not be capitalized).

Okay, thanks! Now there is only one thing that must be clarified before I buy a Receptor: Will my MSI run on it? http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=176968

Currently, no. If the plug is not receptorized and there is not an installer for it (check the plugorama site for both), you typically have to install it on a windows box first, then copy the dll's to a directory on the receptor. Details, I believe, are in the receptor manual and possibly on plugorama somewhere.

If I'm not mistaken, the recent delay in relasing a Muse Linux update has been attributed to getting the installers to run natively (presumably under wine). Obviously this is not a trivial task.

Now I have a Receptor TWR. With OS X everything works fine. But I cannot login under Linux via VNC. The passwort "receptor" is rejected. I tried both port 1 and 5901.

Try "Receptor" with the R capitalized.

Yes, "Receptor" works fine. Now I am happy to run the box with my Linux notebook.
