yeah...I think the G is for generative...apparently, I guess folks believe everyone will want AI generative arranging as central to their compositional workflow in the future?

Not interested. I don't need help with my music or creativity. This will be great for folks with no native talent, we should get higher quality disposable music.
Nothing will change my mind, but feel free to fight amongst yourselves.

But that's something that already exists with a lot of plugins like Nectar from izotope, that we already find out that are not that accurate and in the end, you'll still need to know basics on mixing and mastering...

no, i do not want to replace reaper
it takes time to learn things
reaper will probably add ai generative things anyway
if that happens, then i'll learn to use generative ai there...
if i really have to

I think the potential for AI assistance in music production is pretty good but I have zero interest in having an AI compose for me, or turning text prompts into music.
(I do enjoy the occasional generative sequence in the modular sense of things -- combining multiple lanes of sequencing or multiple LFOs or other rhythmic events into a longer and more complex sequence, maybe a bit of controlled randomness, etc.)

Such "GAW" tools have been around and in use for a long time. Primarily to assist with complex compositions. Cognitone Synfire is probably the best example (https://www.cognitone.com/) but there are others. I find it very curious that this is not mentioned in this article.
What is new is the astonishingly fast advancement in neural networks which will make these tools significantly better very soon. But I very much doubt that everybody will move to generative AI assisted composition. It is its own thing and it will probably stay that way for the foreseeable future.

yeah i too thought it was a lil gimmicky and lazy to leave out the fact that this niche has been ever expanding as plugins or external tools for well over a decade...but to think that the level of integration of this as a cradle to grave workflow will become a controlling variable for the choice of main DAW seems like a stretchmgw38 wrote: Sun Oct 29, 2023 2:10 pm Such "GAW" tools have been around and in use for a long time. I say bring it on.
I was just telling a friend last night about how, on this forum, we used to gently chastise people who came to KVR to ask, "I've got this mixed song, is there any way to extract the vocal from it?" Of course there wasn't and almost everybody knew it. It was laughable to think there might be something that would let you do that. Yet here we are.
Some people think this will enable more terrible music. Of course it will. Just like the mass production of pencils and paper enabled more terrible poetry. News flash, we're already drowning in terrible music. The question isn't about who will use technology to amplify their mediocrity. The question is about who will use technology to amplify their genius.

Seriously, WTH? Everyone considering using A.I. to make music should stop making music. That is the antithesis of having fun creating, or creativity in general.
I can't believe that someone would seriously consider such a thing. It's as if you love to drive a car, and enjoy every aspect of driving yourself, and then buy a self-driving automobile.
