Why is there so much nerd music here?

Anything about MUSIC but doesn't fit into the forums above.

I knew that title would offend someone ;)

As for my real question. It seems like "experimental/ambient" really dominates this web board, almost every song I download I need a degree in mathematics to think its interesting. No offense meant to the people making this sort of music, I just really want to know why this place is so dominated by it, while other forums (who will remain nameless to hide their shame) seem to be very into urban (beats, r&b, hip hop) Is there something about KVR that attracts nerds (read; people who make complex music aimed at a very selective audience)? Is it due to a great deal of information on modular synthesis, and composition of this sort of music? Or is it that there is no other forums for this sort of music?

I'm not judging I just wanna know why it seems like there are 90% Experimental/Ambient songs on the forums, and 10% cheesy trance music that mistakenly got put here because they couldn't find their way to another forum mor popular for that sort of music.
Life IS short, enjoy.

Well.. this is primarily a forum about virtual instruments, which primarily are oriented towards electronic sound. And.. well.. ambient/experimental, if you ask me, doesn't take as much effort or talent to make.

Well my explanation is that it is all the same people doing that stuff. See you need space on a server to post here, so most people aren't setup that way.

If you want more variety maybe try soundclick or acid planet....

BUT this is true that ambient is very big at the moment.

I think my post has been misinterpreted as a complaint, it isn't for sure.

Hehe, they're top, trouble is, they would only get lost like all plectrums do eventually.

Been waiting for a thread like this...Personally, my concern about what is being produced is more about it's level of maturity. There's an awful of what I would dub 'kiddie music' being made, probably influenced by SciFi movies and the like. Now, everything has it's place, but I'm looking forward to hearing some real music. Yes, I believe you can create quality music with these instruments, not just Techno, Electronica, ect.

Been a while since I tried playing guitar, but I know whereof thou speakest.

I hypothesize that there must be a huge Smaug-like dragon whose myriad scales are mostly of tortoise-shell plastic, shot through with a few of every color and metal known. On a massy heap of plectra he lies, in some exotic and distant realm no doubt, and from 'round the globe -- by some means hyperdimensional or magical, I know not -- the picks fly from their rightful homes to become his treasure.

He's got some of my socks too.

Ooooh, you are so going to start an, er, interesting long "discussion" with this thread. Gonna reserve my opinion until I see some of the reactions
