Most of the real musicians are down the pub playing Great Balls of Fire on the piano, hence cant be with us.

I see what you mean,C.Torpedo, but, in my short sojourn here I've had a chance to listen to a very wide range of (yes, mostly 'electronic') music.
If other forums attract mainly (modern) R&B/hip hop/urban styles, as you say, then I'm very happy with a higher ratio of 'experimental' music on KvR. It suits this place like no other style, imho.
I personally like all styles of music as there are great tunes to be found in all. However, I am naturally attracted to anything 'electronic' so hip hop tunes might not interset me here on KvR (even though I used to be in a hip hop outfit,
)
but I've seen hiphop posted in the cafe, so there.
I also think, that a lot of people post tunes here that aren't finished and are meant to be short snippets of the lates idea, sound or new VSTi. Hence, you'd find ambient/abstract offerings, which lend themself to such quick experimentation ( and I'm not saying that an 'abstract' compositon qualifies as 'easy' or 'quick' to produce, far from it).
Anyway. Whatever. Electronica is not represented in the mainstream like the styles you mention, so....
SO !

edit.
You people type faaast ! I was post three when I started, now I'm on page two !

Ummm, is that a caffeine influenced pen, or something more enlightening perhaps?I hypothesize that there must be a huge Smaug-like dragon whose myriad scales are mostly of tortoise-shell plastic, shot through with a few of every color and metal known. On a massy heap of plectra he lies, in some exotic and distant realm no doubt, and from 'round the globe -- by some means hyperdimensional or magical, I know not -- the picks fly from their rightful homes to become his treasure.
He's got some of my socks too.

Because there are so many nerds hereWhy is there so much nerd music here?
Nerds that have never seen instruments that need no electricity.
Nerds who's mayor concern is to make something that nobody else has made before. At all. Not even something similar.

I didn't post this to create a "flame war", I just wanted to discuss the abundance of Nerd music
1. When I said 90% such a music, and 10% another I was trying to use hyperbole in a way that would make my point understandable without describing every genre ever posted here and their exact % rating as posted on the music cafe. Please bear with me, I don't have the time.
2. I don't have an opinion one way or the other on ambient/experimental, I don't make that music, but I don't hate it. At times I find it difficult to understand, especially when I read the descriptions by the artists describing the fellatio curve modeling and the maturitive compression ratios and how Dr. Martin Doosickel's quantitive theories apply to the fork they banged against the window to make a certain noise.
I am merely curious as to why there is such an abundance of it, and such a lack of other genre's of music.

my guess is that its maybe a bit more "easier" to do what one could call ambient. and its not easy at all doing good ambient.
if i knew it would make sense what i wrote here i wouldnt need to eat a schnitzel now .. oh, and the missing plectrums ..

There may be an abundance of people experimenting but experimenting isn't any one genre or type of music. It's people trying to articulate their own vision of what they want music and sound to be - they want to create something of their own; not just make stuff you can hear in any music shop or on the radio. In some case maybe they even want to say something?
