How do you define quality music ? Isn't that personal ? Your statement kind of killed the notion that electronic styles can produce quality music.
Didn't say that. I meant taking electronic music to a higher level. And there are diferences in quality in terms of composition, otherwise some artists would not be esteemed more talented than others.

What doesn't? Or more interesting, what makes it "nerd" music?
My Soundcloud Too many pieces of music finish far too long after the end. - Stravinsky

Sorry for coming in foolish and as a mathematical freshman, but can organized noise include melody or harmony? Or do your ears fake harmony when they hear noise? After all it's noise = equal amount of all frequencies, isn't it? so no tones or harmony?

Or do we hold them to some sort of other standard?
Nope. If it sounds like self-indulgent shite and clearly is just a bunch of wankerage, then that's what it is.
CskaTorpedo wrote:I watched "Alchemists of sound" the other day (an old bbc show on the radiophonic studio) and it was very apperent what those people were doing was experimental, but very obviously also music. It contained good rhythm, complex chord structure, and many other musical fundementals.
Rhythm, complex chords and fundamentals eh? If only we saw more of that in the KvR stuff.

CskaTorpedo wrote:So what makes it music when we throw out musical rules and apply our own?
Shite. Or chaos. Or a whole new "genre". Or all of those mixed together I guess.

we're all nerds. what the hell is nerd music anyway? that's very relative. do you find classical music nerdy? for you to think that this music is nerd music you must be a pretty cool guy. :P anyway, everybody tries to do their own thing and posts it at music cafe for somebody to enjoy. not at all a bad thing imo.

take care
