some newe type of synthesis, or jus a odd hybrid mebbe,

PM like on the Z1 would be interesting aswell, only not just another simple vSti of one instrument/monk or whatever. Korg, get on it!

anyway as long as it would sounds pleasing in my ears it's all good.

I voted for more analogue emulations; that's only because I have this burning desire to see a Jupiter-8 VSTi of Minimonsta quality. Plus we're still waiting for the VST version of TimewARP 2600.

I would love to see more digital emulations as well. It would be nice to be able to get rid of my Korg Prophecy (physical modelling) for one. There have been so many pretend JP-8000 'emulations'; SuperSaw, Superwave, even good old AXS (analogic) borrowed its look and feel - it would be nice to see a proper one.

No VSTi currently does wind-type sounds without samples like the Prophecy IMO.

More granular/particle stuff, and more radical forms of granular and spectral resynthesis.

I think a lot of people want top quality real sounding instruments with a program that makes it easy to get realistic results without heavy programming. My guess is it would include a mixture of sampling and modelling technology.

For the most part, I don't care about realistic sounding instruments myself. A better (yet still affordable, and not requiring gigabytes of hard drive space) acoustic piano maybe.

I know this is the instruments forum, but right now the holy grail for me would be a ring modulator that sounds like a diode ring modulator, not a four-quadrant multiplier.

As for instruments... I want novel things. Either the same already well-covered methods of synthesis that present their controls in new yet intuitive ways, so we tend to get a different set of sounds out of them -- or better/easier/more featureful instruments using the less-explored methods.

I need CONTROL vst's more than I need more sounds.

Like:
-groovebox-like sequencer/multi-channel synth
-more stuff like ERA
-drumachines with patterns

I agree with 'none of the above'.

I want expansive, multi-purpose creative instruments. Flexible and enough general utility to give you lots of options. Specific instruments are what you make of them, if you add in facilities for lots of approaches, then instrument type sorts itself out. Too much emphasis on synthesis methods, not enough "make your music with this."

Actually, I would rather have some innovation in hardware controllers, and some synths that supported the advanced features of such hardware controllers.

I mean, we probably don't even have a single VSTi that supports all of the following basic features:

Note-on velocity
Release velocity
Poly Aftertouch
Channel Aftertouch

I won't even think of asking for a synth that supports all of the possibly relevant MIDI feature set. To my knowledge, no one has built one yet, in hardware or software.

I think expressive performance aspects are what are most lacking in many designs.

Do any hosts support this? It's not available on Cubase for example (unless there has been a change in SX2 or 3).

Release velocity and poly aftertouch are pretty rare on the controller side, too, though. It's a chicken/egg problem.

I agree that there's more to be emulated. Although I voted for "Physical Modelling of Multiple Instruments/New Sounds" I would nearly give my
left nut for a GOOD Oberheim OB* emulation

once again you cold try Super String Thing, it certainly does flutes and it doesn't use samples although I don't know if it could be programmed to do reed or brass instruments, I think they are beyond the current version
