Just got the above NEW SCOPE! ( but not the cat..his name is Butterscotch..he just leaped up on my observing chair, so I took advantage of the situation.)

Its a Hardin 8" mirror Custom painted Reflector with Custom Wood DOB mount . Comes with 3 Eyepeieces: 32MM, 25MM and 9MM. Black finder 8x50 scope. Found it from a guy named Steve Fisher on astromart.com. Its kinda cool in that its not an assembly line scope, but has a much better mount then the usual particle board in the stock version. Also looking forward to looking thru that 32MM lens!! Its a big step up for me.Good price as well: 328.00 including shipping.

but..right after I assembled the scope and took the pics..it clouded over and its raining, which means.: new scope= CLOUDS and RAIN!!

But sure glad I made the leap! looking forward to the next clear night!

anybody else get any new Astromical goodies. or have an observation report?? ( we encourage that here on this forum)

no..its a Time machine!!

REALLY!!!!

Whenever we look at the stars and further into space, we are actually looking back in time thousands, millions of years, as the light takes that long to reach us. Whenever we look at the sun ( well..don't) we are actually looking at it what it was 8 minutes ago.Kinda staggering when you think of it.

I knew that. I Read somewhere that the stars you see are actually no longer there (apart from the sun of course)..dunno how true that is :?

Krim: Bit of an exaggeration, but certainly some of the stars shining on us now have since gone pfft or kablooey (to use the correct scientific terms). Just a matter of time before the sight reaches us.

Tim, nice scope!

BTW, new stars are being born all the time -- so don't worry that the skies will be starless and bible black any time soon. =^_^=

Saw first Light last night. First Object was M42...what a fantastic sight. Crystal clear stars, could see the Trapenziun ( a quadriple star system) Also got Saturn and it was the best I have seen..cloud bands on the planet surface could even be seen, as well as the cassini division between the rings.

the 32MM large field of view was a real treat. M48 in Monosorus was also a treat: open star cluster.

But later got too hazy and too dewy to observe, but glad I was able to get 1rst light without the CMT ( Cloud Magnet Theory) going into full effect ( meaning new scope=cloudy skies for a while:-)

Hope it stays clear for tonight!!
