The final finishing touches have been applied and DS1 is now available at: http://bigtick.pastnotecut.org/djsmaurer/

This set features samples from classic and modern digital synths (ie. Prophet VS, various FM synths, modeling synths, etc...) as base waveforms. These are layered, detuned, panned and modulated into new creations. Mp3 demos are available.

Thanks, Daniel, order placed. Sounds great! :D

Could you tell us more about which synths were used?

And give away all my secerets? The process involved layering, detuning, and audio processing several tracks of the same synth to produce sounds they couldn't make on their own. This way the waves are unique and can't be duplicated by any single instrument. Once inside Rhino they were modified more.

I asked myself a lot of "What if..." questions and this was the first answer.

Naw, not those-just all your secrets! :P

No problem, I'll just think of them as state-of-the-art sonic sculptures! Will that do? :-)

The only "what if" I asked myself was: "What if I buy DS1, my Visa card will be $12 poorer?!?" Then I thought: "Ya, but these are just too darn much fun not to buy!" :-)

BTW- Early Reflections is my fav rave right now. Spooky stuff kids! I kept looking over my shoulder while playing the patch!
Don't know WHAT I expected!

Thanks again, Daniel! :D

I'm back.

Daniel, that is simply unbelievable. Look, I liked Rhino when I first purchased it, but your programing over the last, what, 6 months, has just put this instrument over the top!

I don't think any of the banks have had, for me, as many beautiful and musically useful patches as DS1. I realize everyone's musical needs are different, but your work is simply world-class.

Maybe I should treat you like legal counsel: put you on retainer. :)

Not more killer Rhino sounds! When will this stop? My credit card is tired and needs rest!

I *was* going to just check KVR and go to sleep, but nooooooo, I had to look at this thread!

Now here I am, up past my bedtime - work tomorrow - watching this new bank of goodies download via my lame-arse dialup! And then I'm going to have to try every single patch before I can sleep!

Yet more excellent work. Is there anything you can't make Rhino do? :hihi: :-o

My first impression when Daniel sent me the DS1 preview was, "WOW. This is John Carpenter would have used for his scores, if Rhino had been available at that time". Then I went over to http://www.theofficialjohncarpenter.com to check out the synths he actually used: lots of Prophets, Arp, an d Oberheims. Don't know if that's what Daniel used for DS1, but this is the sound.

Now, if you have any friends into the movie score business, make them a favour and show them Rhino :-)

Boy, I don't normally do this (post music)...

... but I wanted to publicly thank Tick and Daniel for the combined efforts that make Rhino such a musical joy. I've been slowly getting my music system together, and the other night the task was to get the old DrumKAT up, retrained for sensitivity, and press it into service.

In the process I had Rhino up in Chainer with the "Wooden Strike" patch from DS1 while I was training the thing, and realize I should just turn on the recording option. I captured just under 2:00 of meandering (if it somehow sounds just a bit out from usual, the tuning is 5 equally spaced notes per octave), and then burned it to an mp3 (oh yeah, I also had a big ocean of Dasample's GlaceVerb going).

So this is it, not a piece of music, just a moment of wandering, courtesy of the two above gentlemen. Look here for the piece titled Logs.

Thanks for the great synth and sounds!

Inspiring somebody to make music; that's what I'm tallkin' 'bout! I like it!

Hearing Rhino used in this fresh way will hopefully inspire others to experiment, also. It gives me ideas. Thanks.
