Pops & Clicks removal

Hi all,
I'm using Cubase SX2 and Reason 2.5 in production at the moment, but a vocal track contains some annoying clicks etc at the start of some sections. I presume this is because I have split the audio at non-zero points (is that the right term?).
Does anyone know of a good free plugin that can remove these noises, or indeed if there's a way to do it in Cubase? (i.e a 'cut at zero point' feature).
Many thanks for any info you can throw my way.

try to zoom in on the start and end of the file and do an incredibly short fade (in at the start... out at the end), just enough to knock the endpoints back down to 0 without creating a noticable fade in the audio.

hmm... tried a fade at the beginning, but the pop is still there. No quieter either.
