That is sad news. Many nights I filled with BNW (and Night Lines on the weekends). My alarm/radio would often be playing all night as I slept. This thread has brought back many memories. Strange, but I can still hear Brents voice and mannerisms even though I have not listened for years (since 94 or so)....
Oh well, hopefully there is still a place for this type of programming at the CBC.
Who is Avril? Does she play the fiddle?

not at all my friend, I agree with your point 100%shamann wrote:Trying to decipher, are you criticizing me? Not sure why if so, as I think countdowns are vile and heinous (thought that was obvious).vtx wrote:man,, thats the most ridiculous slant on the industry I've ever seen
When Sook Yin Lee left Muchmusic, in a moment of candor in an interview when asked about the demise of the Wedge, her response was that as long as you make something a top ten, target viewers will eat it up. Make something esoteric and freeform, target viewers got brain freeze.
Around the same time, at least 50% of Much's program schedule became a Top Ten something.
I still find it hard sometimes to communicate in print,
I don't think the industry in Canada is capable of thinking for itself,

I also wonder why cbc is accepting our tax dollars while splaying american advertising all over it
if given the chance, the cbc would drop the CFL in a heart beat if the NFL came calling,
why are we still paying them with this kinda attitude
TVO is a much better station anyway

No worries, it was the slant that threw me.vtx wrote:not at all my friend, I agree with your point 100%

I find every day, I hate mainstream entertainment media a little bit more. Either it's been monopolized by idiots, or the most cynical whitewashers.
Saddest of all here is that the CBC is a public institution, ratings/market gibberish/revenue should be irrelevant. If it all goes more like the CBC-3 format, I suppose it'll put more Canadian musicians on the radio, but these things always just become Juno fodder, tend to ignore the small markets and anyone on the margins.

I have to say that i love cbc. i listen to radio 3 all day. i mostly listen to western art music and jazz but i always looked forward to brave new waves. Typical cbc though. find the show that has the largest audience and then cancel it because of some uber snobbery that permeated from the "Canada Council for the Arts" view of world. To some people, there aren't any concerts in toronto outside of the glenn gould studio and the music gallery. don't get me wrong, i love those performances, but people just gotta have an open mind. let's all go see madawaska SQ on march11 then go to future perfect synergy and dance ourselves into oblivion... because we can.

I hear you on the Top 10 Shamann. And I've been watching MuchMoreMusic more lately, because they seemed to play older videos and Classic Albums and all. But now it's 'The Fabulous Life Of... Larry Flynt' or The Club or MMMCountdown.
But so much TV and all is just CRAP! TLC, Discovery, A&E - they should be ashamed when they call themselves 'educational'... If I wanted to turn my studio into an Egyptian Lair, or turn my mountain bike into a Doom themed chopper - maybe?
Who are these overpaid programmers anyways?
