Hrmm, tough to say. Marc's is definitely more feature-rich right now! But I'd like to think of mine as rock-solid, open-ended, and inevitably overtaking his. ;)
Have you guys joined forces yet?
Not yet (apart from the fact that I use his MIDIX component, of course!), but my goal is that all my code is object-oriented (at least as much as possible in Javascript) and neatly modularized so that it will be easy for any developer to customize and maintain, with a nice GUI for the users to use to set up their configs.

Well, they say diversity breeds strength.

Has anyone looked into reinforcing the neck? I'm wondering how hard it would be to build-up a whole new body-neck combo, just using the essential elements of the EZ. Make an instrument that will last through a tour (not that I'm on tour).

If I were a luthier, I would definitely try it. I still can't believe Yamaha hasn't made a pro model yet. It's almost ridiculous.

Has anyone poked around the insides?

Still waiting until I can get a cheap used model as a backup!

Maybe if I see a 'broken' one on ebay where they stressed the neck out too much, I'll try and get one myself. I have to imagine you could make something really sweet. How is the fretboard, quality-wise? If you were able to mount the fretboard on another neck, do you think it would hold up?

I'm just trying to keep myself occupied until the thing arrives, I guess these questions should be answered when I see the thing firsthand.

I like this :)

It shouldn't be to hard to take it apart, the only thing that would scare me is the string part.
But I don't think we need to remove it.

What could be nice is a few MIDI knobs and switches.

I just wanted to mention the EZ-EG comes with more gear than the AG (Midi>USB cable, power cable). For people sitting on the fence between the two, this should be considered when debating the price/value difference between the two. I'm still happy to get the AG, but it would have been nice to have a smaller Midi interface for my lappy, and a power adaptor is pretty useful.

For those with the AG, what do you use to power it, batteries or adaptor, and what adaptors will work? Do you have to buy Yamaha?

I use a car battery booster (has 2x 12v outputs and a few others), load it once a week, and I can move it around. And it's not a Yamaha

Any 12 Volt adaptor should do, just check that the voltage isn't to high or to low ( you may be surprised) and watch the polarity.

AG and EG side by side demo

OK I played with my new EZ-EG for 2 days now and the EZ-AG is still my favorite so I will definitely keep the AG.
Though the EG is better for some playing styles it fails badly when it comes to soft playing.
I created this little side by side demo to highlight the shortcomings of the EG.

We are going to play some soft Electric Piano with occasional "barks" (I love Rhodes)
Both clips were recorded in one take after a few minutes of practice.

First the EZ-AG:

Next is the EZ-EG:
Please note the mishaps are not bad playing it's simply notes not sounding cause I pick them too soft.
This of course forces me to pick harder and that changes the whole feel and sound of the piece.

By the way the Rhodes are emulated by RAY73, an upcoming VSTi by ZioKiller.

Oh... Please don't make me regret my EZ-EG purchase... I spent a whole day walking from shop to shop in Tokyo with my gf to find it

Anyway, I couldn't play half as good as you, so actually it doesn't matter for me. Very useful info for those who are going to buy it though. BTW, when picking a string on my EG, an adjacent string will sometimes be triggered (I actually have to disable the open strings when playing solo), does it happen to the AG too?

Sorry, don't want to make anybody feel bad.
Maybe I will create a new side by side demo highlighting the shortcomings of the AG.
Something like hard and fast shot-gun style bass lines
or triggering something like a mandolin plug.
EG will be the clear winner in this case.

Yes AG is even more sensitive in this case.
You just have to play clean.
I disable open strings most of the time.
When I play bass I disable the lower strings as well.
The good news is that these neighbor mistriggers are very low velocity and it's easy to spot and delete them in the piano roll of your DAW.

No worry, the EG is still one of my top favourite purchases. You're just tempting me into buying an additional AG :D

And don't forget: EG has WHAMMY BAR! :D I find it useful for controlling "articulation" when playing with mostly hammer-ons like Allan Holdsworth.

My AG won't be here until March 10th. Damn the free shipping! Hopefully it shows up before then.
