Capsules/Studiophonik overlap?

I am wondering if there is overlap between the Capsules and the upcoming Studiophonik, which is supposed to feature brand name guitars, basses, and drums. Seems like the Capsules have this as well. It has been noted that the pianos and horns in Studiophonik are there to round out the package and not the main focus. So, what will be special about the content in Studiophonik then? Obviously there is more in Studiophonik...is that the main difference, more?

Basically, I am wondering why I would get the capsules group buy when I can just wait and get Studiophonik. Costs more, yes, but I would think it would cover everything the capsules do and then some. I always thought of the capsules as being for the non-ST2 crowd (being multi-format), or just a way to expand on ST2 for certain genres that you want more of. Did I just answer my own question?

BTW, how is Studiophonik coming?? Haven't been hearing much about it. No demos from NAMM or anything.

Studiophonik is much more than a collection of the capsules. There will be cool stuff like multiple mic positions for crossfading between close and ambient samples, there's going to be more variety of sounds too (more types of guitars and other instruments, as well as more presets), and other cool stuff that's not public yet.

There's also the issue of the sample player. The Capsules can be played in almost any softsampler, and also come with ST2LE (which is like a "player" version of ST2 with less editing). Studiophonik will be pretty much the complete ST2 engine (similar to Sonik Synth 2), but with a new "vintage console" look. 8)

You've pretty much got the right idea - the Capsules are add-on packs for any softsampler, and Studiophonik is one big dedicated instrument (that happens to be a huge add-on pack for ST2 as well!).

Forever,

Kim.

Just to add to Kim's comments, one other difference between Studiophonik and the Capsules is that it sounds like Studiophonik will be more CPU-intensive than Sampletank or the Capsules.

As for myself, looks like the Capsules will be the first SR group buy that I'll have to stay on the sidelines for. I need to conserve my resources for that Sampletank/Amplitube bundle. :)

That's true. That main reason for this is the multiple mic position mixing. Each note will use more stereo voices than the Capsules.

Yes, you guys are right. More mic mixing and pick up positions but it is more CPU intensive to do that sort of thing. There's also mostly different samples and not much crossover even though the themes are guitar, bass and drums (plus percussion, brass and keys).

It's coming along. I think Philharmonik will be ready before it though. Studiophonik is a monster but it is going to be absolutely amazing. I really want it to be able to emulate ANY band's sound practically so we're taking our time with it to get it right. Sorry. In the meantime we have a great deal going on with the Sonik Capsule group buy though on www.esoundz.com
