Just a heads up-
The "win an sE microphone" contest that was sponsored by TapeOp magazine appears to have been just a bogus way to collect customer information.
TapeOp readers were offered a chance to win one of three sE microphones by going to the sE Electronics website, reading about the history of the company and descriptions of the products, taking a three question quiz about sE Electronics, filling out personal information and submitting the form. Which, foolishly, I did, as did several of my friends.
When it came time to award the prizes, sE claimed that no one had entered the contest. I emailed Larry Crane, editor of TapeOp magazine to let him know that I had indeed entered. He replied that he had recieved MANY emails from readers saying they had entered, too, and was sorry that it seemed no one would win the microphones after all. He suggested that perhaps sE had simply had a problem with the website.
I'd like to give sE the benefit of the doubt, but strangely enough, although the contest entries mysteriously vanished, sE has been emailing product information to those that entered.
I'd like to say that I don't believe TapeOp had anything to do with the scam, and seem honestly confused by these results.
I hope sE will rectify the situation soon. Regardless, I'll spend my money with Rode or Studio Projects in the future.

Hmmm...I hope they don't turn out to be a shady company.
I just bought an sE H3500 and was just about to start singing their praises. It kicks ass!

Yeah, the mics are good. I hope it really is just a big screw-up.
So you like your sE H3500, huh? I was looking at that mic for my new vocal mic. It's been a toss-up for me between that and the Studio Projects C1. The Rode mics are a bit too bright for my taste. This contest BS left me with a bad feeling, though. For me it's tipped the scales in favor of the C1.
