Orion users - how do you use your sends and inserts?

I never, ever get crashes any more. Ever. ORION Platinum is definitely the most stable piece of software I use, except maybe for NotePad. As to the question, I tend to use most of it these days:
Send 1 - Platinum Reverb [every song].
Send 2 - Diffuse Delay [every song].
Send 3 - Tube Distortion [sometimes].
Send 4 - Maybe another delay for vocals only.
Inserts - 2 Band Distortion [a lot], Tube Distortion [a bit], Classic Chorus/Phaser [sometimes].
EQ - Absolutely everything. Easily the most important part of mixing for me.
Master FX Strips - I often EQ the sends - boost high-end for sparkling reverb, etc
Bus 1 - Route Kick to both M and 1. Place 2 Band Distorion in Bus 1 Insert and use bass-heavy EQ for insanely huge kick sound.
Bus 2 - Sometimes I'll run the rest of the drums through Dominion here or place two channels that are playing the same thing through a distortion or something to push them together more.
Master - PSP MixSaturator and compressor. Master Level usually ends up at around -25dB or so as mixes tend to get really loud.
It would be very unusual for me to compress individual channels, except maybe vocals [from movies, not mine]. In a similar vein to what Krim said, someone once posted a track that had around 12 compressors in it. I turned them all off and turned the master level up and it sounded exactly the same. It is way too easy to chase your tail when mixing so I try to keep it as straightforward as I can. If I am having trouble nailing a mix I just turn all the faders down to zero, reset all the EQ and start again. I also generally only use a small number of effects. Maybe 2 inserts in a song with half-a-dozen instruments. I tend to preprocess samples/loops in Cool Edit rather than use effects on them in ORION, although sometimes I do both.

LOL. Nice promo.
If your NotePad crashes, your having some problems, no doubt.

I pretty much only get crashes if it's something to do withSicklecell666 wrote:Too bad it's true..I had the f**ker crash on me while I was simply moving some midi notes this afternoon..And was reminded why I no longer use OPlat..Glassback wrote:Thank yoooo - you're presence is no longer required in this thread.pHz wrote:(BTW - orion sucks a big one)

I mean wtf is up with that?!
a) my computer
b) asio 4 all
or
c) when writing automation events whilst the song is playing.
The first one - well, sods law and all that. Keep on upgrading, get a bit more ram etc etc
2nd - disable A4A unless actually recording from controller keyboard.
3rd - don't have the tune playing whilst I'm writing automation events.
There's an occasional 4th option: Orion, like any other computer programme, sometimes behaves like a pig.
But it doesn't seem to happen that often, thankfully.
Oh, and the 5th one - some vst's. Especially some synth edit ones it would seem. Um...
Dunno what's up with that though, sickle.

Usually my setup goes like for my 80s music,
[Send 1] Delay (Sonitus or Diffuse Delay)
[Send 2] Flanger (Sonitus Modulator)
[Send 3] Delay (mono delay panned)
[Send 4] Reverb
Rarely use master bus inserts, except when mixing and effecting vocoders or vocals.
For inserts I use compressors primarly only for bassdrum and snaredrum. Sometimes for toms to get them more punchy.
Rest inserts depend on the sound. Usually none. When song is done, I put some analog warming to the inserts of the tracks which require it.
Stream out the song in 24/96, resample to 24/44 and mastering in Wavelab. For me the resampling step gives smoother sound which I prefer.

I used to get crashes occassionally on my old PC but since I got my new lovely everything is so much more stable than it already was. I think updating my audio drivers helped heaps.

A 3.2 ghz P4 with a gig of ram should have all the balls I need to run Orion with a SINGLE vsti & not f**king crash. I used it last night for the first time in months around the time I was shitting in your Ice-Ice-Baby thread, but when I opened it again this morning & almost immediately crashed while transposing like 5 midi notes I was reminded of why I stopped using it despite being one of the most vocal Orion users here last year.ZZ wrote:Hmmm, you were reminded of why you no longer use it and yet you were indeed using it. Somewhat of a dichotomy, don't ya think? Anyway, maybe you should consider throwing out that dinosaur puter and getting something with some balls Sickle. It would help if you spoke English. The only time I have ever had problems is with dodgy VST's and then it would crash soon after I added it, making it pretty clear what the problem was. I have a look at most stuff that comes out and I can't remember the last time I had a conflict.

Clearly, I said the following:
"ναs ghz P4 με έναs gig του έμβολο θα έχω όλος the μπάλλες χρειάζομαι σε τρέχω Orion με έναs μονό vsti & όχι f**king σύγκρουση αυτοκινήτου. εγώ μεταχειρισμένος αυτό χτεs το βράδυ για πρώτη φορά μέσα μήνες τριγύρω the ώρα εγώ was shitting μέσα δικό σου πάγοs - πάγοs - μωρό thread , μα πότε εγώ ανοιγμένος αυτό πάλι αυτό το πρωινό & σχεδόν αμέσως σύγκρουση αυτοκινήτου διάστημα transposing αρέσω midi σημείωση εγώ was θύμισα του γιατί εγώ τάπα χρησιμοποιώνταs αυτό απελπίζομαι being έναs του most φωνητικός Orion users εδώ πέρισυ. πωs f**king σκληρός is ότι σε understand?"
Be as pretentious as you wanna about it, but it pisses me off that Orion can be as easy to use as it is while remaining the dodgiest least reliable host I've used..I mean I have dozens on dozens of crashes I simply kept my mouth shut about here out of respect to Rich..why f**king bother, I mean he doesn't have MY back, does he?
