We can only pray it isn't the disaster Halion 3 is. I usually go out of my way to defend the Borgz, but the H3 release was total nonsense. Then again, K1 wasn't without its issues either. However H2 and from what I follow K1.5 are rock solid and great bargains right now.

It's sad that I have spent so much $$$$ on sampler software between GS and H and, just like you, I use sfz+ in the host.

Kontakt 1.5 has been a real problem for me (I had no problems with 1.2), but K2 is looking KILLER, plus lots of promises to fix the major issues users have had, PLUS a new kick-ass library. So I'm looking forward to that. I bought Kontakt because I tried Sampletank, HALion and NN-XT, and Kontakt was the only one (at that time) that had a drag+drop browser, didn't require any messy conversions or flipping from page-to-page and had FX + killer sound-shaping tools.

I have to agree with SJ_Digriz: We bought Gigasampler here at work, and the degree to which I don't use it absurd. I can't stand the the way it works, and I'm thrilled that HD-Streaming has become competitive.

I don't know; I saw the Steinberg rep using it in very large comps in SX 3 - with the Audio Warp-tempo business going on - and it was solid.

But that's how it is with software experiences; one man's pleasure is another man's...you know the rest.

I HATE GIGA.

Please don't ask me to explain why again. But its awful.It has its pluses -memory management, sound engine xlnt. But whats with the user interface and don't lets talk about the editor!

I too have spent $$$on samplers from Akai CD3000xl, AkaiS5000
Giga, Halion, Kontact etc...

can't wait for K2 though. Battery 2 is already looking good.

Battery 2 was such a solid update it raises my hopes for Kontakt 2. Battery owners must be thrilled, they had to wait for so long.

I hate Sampletank, Giga and any other bloated, overpriced excuse for a sampler. All I need is Adobe Audition along with my sample library. Whew! Got that out of my system. Back to tweaking...

If you want the laundry list of stupid things that didn't work on release you can go to Cubase.net and find them. Some of them are actually funny. Like the version of SX that couldn't save a project. However, I'm not gonna say the program is bad. I don't have it to judge. I just looked at the release info and made a decision to avoid H3. I'll do the same on K2. I'll wait to see what kind of response takes place from the release.

Anyhow back on subject. GS3 vs ST2 is kind of a weird question as they are two different kinds of applications. If you just want to use samples that are prebuilt and an easy to use setup I would have to side with ST2.

Sampletank and samplers like Giga/Kontakt/Halion..etc are not really the same thing. Sampletank doesn't have a vast library of the best samples on the planet. If you want to use the best sample libraries out there, you should get a full-blown sampler. The sounds that come with Sampletank (and those available from other developers) range from good to crappy, but none I have heard could compare to premium sample libraries.
