Orion users - how do you use your sends and inserts?

How does one go about updating audio drivers other than the obvious Direct X update, which I've already done? Thanks.

Check for the audiocard manufucture's driver updates..

I use em pretty much the same way as original post.
Fx I know I'll use on more than one track that will be fully wet will be in buses, usually eqing in buses and sends are for taking bass out. Compression I use individually usually.
Delays usually in sends...
Common 3rd part fx are Psp42, Voxengo Crunchessor (unfortunately the only Vox plug I have so far)
and reaktor (Spaceverb a lot)
I use native fx a lot.

Master is usually a limiter when it's near finished or to step 2 (render song out to bring back in and add more) and sidechain gate.

Eq mostly usually on each track

Orion is stable here, only thing I can think of that has crashed it for a long time passed are some reaktor ensembles.

So it's not a piece of shit.
It's a problem with your computer.

Orion is solid as a porn stars rod for me. Very occasional crashes on songs with a heap of SE synths in them. Using native or the higher end VST only never gives me any problems.

Ok, I've had a couple of corruptions in 2 years which ain't that bad I think but these songs were loaded with synths and running around 90%. I have one track with 11 Wusikstations all running in a 16 bar loop (not got round to arranging yet ) and Orion will get it's knickers in a twist if I leave it running but hell, theres a lot of long release going on.

Anyway,I have good version control anyway so it's never that much of a problem.

I run a P4 2.6 + 1gb DDR using 1280x1024.

As for sends/inserts....

Mixer:

Sends

1 Platinum Verb, always.
2 Diffuse Delay or X-Delay, Retro Delay
3 Ohmboyz, Filter Delay or QFX (Sweep Delay 2 or Flanger Delay)
4 Anything really. Maybe another reverb (Orion Plate Verb or QFX Gate Verb) but quite often Kjareus GMO, Mobilohm, Predatohm, Orion Tube or maybe even the Band FX holder for some whacked out shit.

Inserts

Any thing goes. Use a lot of Orion Lo Cut Filters, SuperCamelPhat2 for isolating bass frequencies (band pass filter), a lot of QFX Creative pack goes on inserts, Quadfromage, Metal Mickey(love it), Crunchessor, Kjaerus GCO.... All depends on my mood.


Master:

Bus 1: Most drums routed here along with bass through Kjaerus GPP or Crunchessor.

Bus 2: Any other drums maybe through Crunchessor or SuperCamel2.

Bus 3: Mobilohm, Quadfromage, Orion Band or Multi FX or a QFX.

Bus 4: Whatever! Orion Harmonic Resonator or gate running off a Midi Out. Odd stuff.

Sometimes these as routed straight here some times M + 1/2/3/4. Wish I could send Buses to Buses! Or had more sends....but that's a whole 'nuther arguement over at Orion.

Master: Kjaerus GEQ, QFX Mastering Toolkit


EQ: Mainly done on Orions mixer strips (Bones, I've never EQ'd the sends. I'll have a play with that) although I use Nyquist and Gliss aswell.

I don't use all this all the time, it's just a guide as to what could be used. Also, just hgetting into Reaktor FX

Audition never crashes. eXT never crashes. Reaktor rarely crashes and when it does it's my fault, so the Orion is the Golden Turd myth just doesn't pan out for me. I have way too many hours using it & other hosts. As far as my computer having a problem, which one were you refering to? Orion crashes on each of my machines(compaq/HP) like clockwork..

Anyways, f**k it, I'm over Orion at this point.

pretty much the same as most people have stated so far

send the reverbs and delays etc
insert the manglers and filters
bus the compressor
rarely use the master inserts cept if I'm fiddling around with a preset on a synth or playing with mobilohm
then I insert a limiter in case things get ugly.

Just for the record, lemme say that I really love the way Orion's made & I wouldn't need another host for anything if I didn't have these constant crashes.

It's a shame really, as even with Audition, there's still tons of things that are easier to do in Orion.

I never, ever get crashes any more. Ever.

I get loads, especially when testing stuff, but thats to be expected. I also get loads with songs that have large audio files, may be a RAM prob tho, but annoys the f**k out of me. Its not stable at all these days round here.

You use very little stuff in your tunes, so i wouldnt expect it to crash, i on the other hand bang the f**k out of Orion all the time, just to see what happens...its what testing is all about no?
