amp/speaker cabinet modelling? (new twist on old question)

I've been wondering if there is an amplifier cabinet modelling plugin to be found anywhere? I was just having a look through this thread but did not find what I was after.
Here's what I had in mind:
Not an amp sim, just the cabinet
Not a set of specific/static cabinet models, but rather a model designer based on a set of variable components (speaker size, material density, back/no back, etc).
Not convolution based
I'm interested in this as only a pseudo-realistic effect, want to use it passively like you would a specialized reverb. Want to avoid convolution as I'd like to be able automate values so that models will change over time. I can always build a modular setup to do this, but was hoping to find something already out there. I'll go the modular route if nothing exists.
Doesn't matter if its an old plugin, I'm game.
Alternatively:
Does any one know of a standalone modelling utility for actual cabinet designers?
Or, going the convolution route, would Voxengo's Impulse Modeller be able to come up with reasonable facsimilies of cabinet behaviour?
Or, do any of the amp sims have non-model-specific cabinet modellers?
Looked at MDA combo, Trash, and Amplitube, but all are set models. Even looked at the Pod stuff, but again, set models.

Hello
You might want to check out Revalver, it can be made to sound pretty good.
But anyhow you can use the speaker sims alone even though the plugins GUI says its not possable.
Different sizes(types), mic placement and distance is possable.
Peace

I'm glad I asked, Ravalver had completely slipped my mind. Only downside is that it's DX, which precludes automation for me (would be using DX-VST wrapper).
Will test tonight to see what I get. Thanks.

I'm not sure about this, but I believe that one of the components in UA's Nigel effect is a cabinet modeller. If I remember correctly, it has a large number of presets based on variables like the ones you list (speaker size *and* # of speakers, open or closed back, etc). Of course, you'd have to buy a UAD-1 to run it on.shamann wrote:Here's what I had in mind:

Hey, there is a module for Synth Edit that is a series of delays built to emulate environments like a guitar cabinet or hollow instrument body (the basic controls are just the dimensions of the object), this could be used as a base, along with a low pass filter and a series of peak filters to emulate space.
It's worth a shot if all else fails anyhow... If you are interested I could try to throw somethign like that together...

There is? Do you know who made it?xerocreep wrote:there is a module for Synth Edit
[edit]The Ralph Gonzalez MultiDelay? Synthedit was the way I was leaning, or an FX chain in Audiomulch, just meant I had to learn all the charateristics of cabinets. I've found some good cabinet design sites, will have to read through over the weekend.

yes, it is the multi-delay. It took me quite a while to figure out what its actually for. Just put in the dimensions in inches (dont quote me on that) for the values.

I spent a geat deal of time trying to build a decent amp sim that I ended up pretty much shelving, so i have a lot of basic designs as far as cabinet emulation using connected filters and mixing in the multidelay as "air" I was using a series of 2 shleving and 3 peak filters to replicate various curves i found for cabinets.
Ironically, I got started onit because I wanted to use just the cabinet part to cut off the direct "sheen" when I used my sans amp to record guitars. Ended up going the convolution route, as I didnt need the automation or anythign like that....

Yeah, this one gets forgotten a lot. I've started to like revalver more and more - I just had to realize that it's "not" modular in the sense that you could combine ANY of the modules. Some preamp/poweramp combos sound pretty heinous, but there's many really warm, sweet sounds to be found. Just on the high gain side I don't find much that I like (maybe I'll have to tweak more...). But it delivers in the clean and crunch sound business... and CPU is ridiculously lowFrettedSynth wrote:You might want to check out Revalver, it can be made to sound pretty good.

Get a convolution processor like SIR or Pristine Space and find some cabinet impulses.
There are some Mesa and Marshall cabinetimpulses out there.
Probably alot more if you look hard enough

it's my *very simple* implementation of a cabinet sim.
