Does anybody know where they are stored?
It seems that all the freaking program does is to save them somewhere inside the program file because they just don't appear locally on my machine.

I need to transfer mine to a bunch of other machines. Is that really impossible?

If so, that's just another prove of ultralameness by the b0rg!

B4 you call someone or something ultralame, try learning how the use the program youself. in the key commands section you can save and import.key files from the "key commands" folder in program files.....you can save your key commands also there...although on mine the files were not .key they were .xml....little bug but very simple...

OK, so then you should be able to just tell me where my keycommands are.
I saved them from the preset menu. A file with the name I used DOESN'T exist on my machine! I searched all C: and D: (which is where I installed SX).

This is an image of my explorer, the place where the KeyCommands of SX 3 are stored. As you can see, the XML files inside that folder are displayed in the dropdown of the SX KC preset menu. There's a few more being displayed, these are the ones I created.
Now, please tell me where to find those in explorer, so I can save them onto whatever moveable media to take them with me. They aren't on any of my local drives.

At the same time, when I delete any of the ones coming with SX 3, they aren't deleted from explorer at all.

And again at the same time, when I chose "open", Cubase will only accept .key files, but there aren't any.

And again at the same time, when I delete an XML file (I tried with the Sonar KCs, which are irrelevant for me) manually from explorer and then put it back in, it won't reappear in the dropdown.

Bottomline: There's NO importable .key file on all my machine and there's NO XML or .key files saved whenever I use that menu.

So, how to do it?

OK, something seems to be clearly f**ked up over here.

When I reset the KCs to default, nothing is happening either. It's just not working, not at all. It just stays at the last used setting.

I wonder what might cause this... Should perhaps reinstall Cubase. What a drag as I will defenitely lose all my KCs then - and I've just been spending hours to set them up for my needs.

there is a saveable keyfile sasha - all cubases presets are saved

but cubase saves it in your application data folder inside your documents & settings folder - almost certainly on your c drive - not in the folder that contains the program

mine is at C:\Documents and Settings\a\Application Data\Steinberg\Cubase SX 3\Presets

any presets removed from there means they no longer appear in the program - i.e. you can remove the sonar ones from there

hope that helps

This just doesn't exist.

As said, I searched all C: as well for the name of that file - no matches.

Let me reinstall SX and have a look at what will happen...

it is a hidden file, so you'll have to check that on your search preferences - and "a" is my user name so you will have to type your name in there instead

but it does defintely exist - even if the manual doesn't make that entirely (actually in any way) obvious

look here before re-installing :

C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<Benutzer>\Anwendungsdaten\Steinberg\Cubase SX 3\Presets\KeyCommands

where the bold marked is the user account of your machine (e.g. could be "Administrator") .

Somthing about setting up the key commands the way you want them and then exporting them, and then impoting them back in.

"Key Command assignments are Project-independent and stored within Cubase SX itself, meaning that any Key Commands you assign will be available to any Project you open or create. If you want to use your assignments on another system, you can save them by clicking the Export button in the Key Commands window, and reload them via the Import button."

alas cubase no longer has an export button - it just automatically saves them to the locations described above in english and german - it would be easier wouldn't it

OK, found the directory. Now... I'm confused anyways.

Even after I reinstalled SX, I can't change to another KC preset anymore.
"Clear all" (which I never used at all) for instance isn't doing anything.
Some things seem to be randomly altered though... truly weird.
Just deinstalled it and cleaned a lot of orphaned stuff, let's see what will happen...

what version of SX Sascha? For SX-3 the defaults are all kept in the /program files/cubase....... and the user ones are kept in /document settings/username/application data/steinberg/cubase SX 3/presets/keycommands.

Inside Cubase there is now only the option to save or load. If you modify a default you have to save it with a new name. It will now be in your /documents../username/...... folder.

I exported(well saved since there isn't export now) my custom key command and posted it on cubase.net. I also made an xsl spreadsheet so I could see what was open for mapping.
post of exported xml file

OK.. it seems something is SERIOUSLY f**ked with the SX installer and uninstaller.

Before I had SX installed to D:\Programme\etc...
Now, because all my old settings were still loaded, I thought it'd be an idea to install it to C: instead for a test.
When I was done, ALL the KC presets were just GONE!

I'm now uninstalling SX 2 as well, trying to clean my registry and see what'll happen.

I mean, I found all the settíngs (thanks eric), but loading them just didn't change anything anymore.

Really confusing...

Sascha it doesn't use the ones in the program folder. They are there for reference/replacement/backup etc.. It only uses the ones that are in your /username/applications data/steinberg/.... folder. There should be 2 seperate directories for SX 2 and 3 there so no need to un-install 2 or 3.

One problem I notice is that people log in with different names so can't find their custom ones they made.
