No, the whole package would have been about $200. In BitFlipper's case, it doesn't make sense to separate the sounds from the player, because the sounds require the player. It was $200 for the package. And now BitFlipper is (rightly) annoyed that he needs to upgrade to the next model up because the current model doesn't meet his needs.
As far as the functionality of his system, I agree, but in the price paid, I don't agree. I DEFINATELY feel his pain, too. It sucks to find a limitation in a major purchase that makes it useless to him, and find out that he has to spend more money to solve the problem. I was trying to help him feel better about his purchase based on the fact that the sound set he got in the deal DOES have value. He is not connecting with the fact that XL is a MSRP $500 program, and costs $389 on eSounds. Had he gone that route, he could have had a full version of Sampletank for $11 less than he'd pay the way he went, but he wouldn't have the extra sounds he has now. The sounds he has would integrate perfectly to the upgraded system, should he decide to get XL, and that value will stay with his system.

Like bit, I also had a major annoyance with LE, so I can very much relate to his anger. My problem was the color scheme made it difficult for my aging eyes to read, and it made using my sounds almost impossible. I had to use a magnifying glass to read it, and had to bend over my monitor, or get someone else to read it for me and I couldn't set my midi channels, make combination, etc. I posted my complaint and requested a skin with a more readable color scheme for LE and was told that ST2 XL allowed color changes, and I should upgrade. I was annoyed with this response. It was a PITA, and honestly, I thought I'd forget it and use another product. New glasses have helped this some, but it was a real problem for me.

When SS2 came out, I got the crossgrade deal, and went ahead and bought it. OH MAN!! Talk about LOVE! Great sounds, an interface I could read, and I was able to figure out how to use LE drawing from my expirience with the SS2 interface to finally utilize LE for a few things. I have since upgraded to XL, and have become a very enthusiastic customer, as everyone has seen. :) I'm just so glad I didn't let my original anger and frustration cause me to give up. I now feel like I have the sound set of my dreams, and it's been one of the best values I have ever purchased. I couldn't be happier! I can't help but feel he would find the same thing in the long run, but he's frustrated now. I can definately relate to that.

Thanks for everyone helping me with this. I think part of the frustration is that, if you think about it, LE breaks the way Sonar works. Sonar is an MDI (Multiple Document Interface) app, meaning you can open multiple songs at once. I have been using this feature for a long time, and it is part of my workflow.

I have some songs that do nothing but store loops so you can audition them and copy over parts when working on a new song. Then LE comes along and breaks this. If you now have LE in those two songs, guess what - only one can work. So now I can't do what I have been doing for a long time anymore. Unless I don't use LE in my songs. So that is my main complaint.

Having two or more songs open at the same time is a perfectly valid thing to do, and does not violate the single-instance clause in the agreement since there would still be just one instance per song, and you can only play one song at a time anyway.

So the brain-dead implementation of this limitation is what gets me. The plugins have all sorts of info available about the song, including the name. Instead of doing a global one-instance limit, they should have done a per song name limit. I'm sure they just didn't think the whole thing through when they implemented it, and therefore broke the MDI interface.

And of course, while the one-instance limitation was a well-known fact before I paid for it, there was no way to know that it was implemented in such a way to have this effect. So saying that I knew about this beforehand is wrong.

Maybe also some of this negative feeling towards LE also has to do with the constant crashing people experienced while loading up some of the sounds in the initial release of the group buy, and it took Sonic Reality a long time to fix those sounds and get working sounds out to people. Imagine browsing the sound library from within LE and knowing Sonar could crash any second you open a new sound. That and the fact that the drum kits are not very usable in the sense that even the "stereo" kits have 2/3 of the sounds recorded in mono, panned dead-center and no way to pan individual drum instruments. After using Kontakt and DR-008 before LE, losing those capabilities seems like a huge step back so.

And maybe if they responded to my email about working out some deal after I complained the 1st time around I would be happy today. Squids even gave me the name and email address of the person to email. Never heard back.

I definately agree with you there. I think your limitation thing would be an IK request.

At the end of the day, it won't matter. Just like I don't really care that I can't read LE anymore. Sampletank 2XL doesn't have any limitations. Now I can run it with a light blue background that looks good in Sonar, and I can easily read it. I'm really glad I got it. You really get a lot of great sounds, and it ties all your sounds together so nicely into a library. It's really the way to go.

Hey,I use Sonar too, we should start a Sonar thread at some point to see who's all out there. We could maybe get some useful exchanges going. In fact, I will get it started.
