I remember during the Mac/PC wars raiding a Mac village. We set fire to it - you could see it burn for miles. The men were strung up and I won't go into what we did with the women and children.

Not sure what it has to do with Macs, but Athlons can do two flops per clock tick, while P4s do one. Subject to the bus being able to keep up with it.

And then of course there is the matter of 3DNow / SSE2 which makes it completely impossible to compare two CPUs on a GHz basis.

In that sense there is a MHz Myth: architectures are so complicated that in most applications other factors than pure clock speed play a significant role.

not to mention, can you *really* be sure that code will behave in 2 different Oses exactly the same way? Cross platform benchmarking is not going to be very accurate...

This is a sad thread so full of miss information it hurts.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more GPU dependent application than doom3. Keep in mind that nvidia has been spit polishing their fully doom3 optimised PC driver for years. Not so on the mac side.

It REALLY doesn't make a good comparison of the two platforms no matter how you look at it.

b) i offered an example of non-amatouerish usage of (similarly overpriced) technology / vendor in a quite established production company.

That said, I really do NOT see any *crap* argumentation from my side. And, as I said, there sure is a variety.
