The lack of even a demo suggests that something didnt work correctly. It may have been due to PCI bandwidth, after all another PCI card would have been needed on top of the existing AGP one. Graphics cards are known to hog bandwidth and maybe using that as well as audio was just too much.

If it didn't pan out, I wouldn't blame them for not making a public admission in the face of all the interest that was gathered. I mean come one, how humiliating would you want it to be for them?

I asked my uni lecturer about it, and he said it was theoretically possible at least.

Even if bionicFX doesnt work out, someone else will do it. Theres a lot happening with general purpose computing on GPU's. Check out http://www.gpgpu.org/
