the ones that I know of are:

dicer
phatmatik
intakt
beatcreator
recycle
kontakt
shortcircuit

I know there are more that i'm missing but what is it out of the ones that I listed and the ones that I missed that makes it your favorite? and any info you'd like to mention about the sampler you use would be great.

I still like pHATMatik Pro! I understand it well and vs1.2 is now quite stable in WinXP

pHAT Pro, too. Mainly because it's 16 channel multi-timbral, multi-output, and the transpose keyrange works independently for each channel.

For the price, MicroDicer is unbeatable. Sure, it's lacking of some features others have, but it's extremely easy to handle, yet quite powerful, especially when used along with another drumsampler.

Can any of the mentioned programs or plugins be used to cut and tighten up drums recorded onto several audio files? Features like quantizeing to predefined note values which can easily be done i Cubase SX would be great too. Why I am asking about this is becuase I don'r use Cubase SX, but Sonar.

Edit: I know that BeatCreator can do it, but then it has the price it has...

My new favourite is Subminimal's pseudograins. Very easy to work with, the sequencer is a great way to control slices, can do granular synthesis effects, and it's free.

I admit though, I'm not really interested in the Recycle-style slicing with mapping to MIDI notes etc, so my needs aren't necessarily your needs. Also Ioplong's Splonki and Slifty rank high up there.

Actually, any of them.
But on the other hand: none of them too - at least not on real drum tracks.

Why? Because all the plugin based solutions are limited to 127 slices (because they would use the MIDI standard).
ReCycle is an exception here, but that'd require using a host being able to load REX files.

127 possible slices are used up faster than one might think/hope.

I think he meant in a batch process, with no manual intervention.

..the best Slicer i´ve ever tried is Basement Arts` REFLEX ...its biggest advantage is: direct midi editing, no extra files)...but mostly i work with AMG Solo ..it only can read scliced files (REX2 and ACID) but it´s cheap, very cpu-friendly and easy to automate...:)

Fruity Slicer. I tried Pahtmatik and Recycle some time ago but I'm still amazed by Fruity Slicer's ease and range of use. I miss it very much when I work with other hosts.

If you want some quick slicing:

Try the fruity slicer in FLStudio. It's beat detection is pretty good and it's easy to quickly get idea's out. I love just going into my sample browser and clicking on 'send to slicer'. And FLStudio 5 you can import rex files.

If you want to create your own slices (use rex):

I'd recommend ReCycle. It's a very nice app for creating rex files. The only feature I'd like to see is the ability to dump all the slices to seperate wav files. Another plus is that most VST Loop Instruments (I'm sure you'll read about many in this post) support the rex format. So you can load your loops in all kindsa stuff.

If you want a nice VST Loop Instrument:

The best one I have used so far was Intakt. It allows you to do a bit of processing on each slice. I used this for importing a drum loop and reversing a hi-hat or two, then reducing the bit depth on a kick somewhere in the mix.

Huh? ReCycle does that since AGES! Actually since day one it came out.

I was just about to ask the same question about beat slicers and someone beat me to it.....

Can any body give me the pros and cons of Dicer, ive been looking for something cheap like this and this seems on the surface to do pretty much what i want.

Thoughts anybody?

Thanks in advance

Cool! Maybe I just didn't look deep enough. I'll go try 'file/save-as' tonight :]
