I use FL Studio but am interested in finally combine it with Cubase SL, using the latter for audio purposes.

BUT I can't find any demo...isn't there a demo of Cubase so that I can get familiar with it before deciding to buy it?

ftp://ftp.pinnaclesys.com/Steinberg/dow ... e_SX/Demo/

only version 1.02 though. SL3 will be a lot more powerful.

thanks armadillo. and is there any compariosn chart between Cubase sx and sl or even se? I don't wanna spend so much money and I need it especially for audio and midi external hardware synths usage...

Post

I believe the steiny website has a chart with the differences between the 3..

Post

ok I'll go there then, thanks!

I've just read it. I think SL is the one for me. I guess SL also has Plugin Delay Compensation, am I right?

Hey dude, I've been using SE for a month or so now and I must say it's pretty powerful. I usually have about 6 vsti's, 15-20 audio tracks, and plug-ins up to my eyes on a track and it can handle it all for under $100.

I should have a finished track to post in cafe within a week or two and you can see what I mean.

Yes SL3 has PDC. I use SE myself and am pretty happy with it. It would have been nice to have PDC for using SIR but I can live without it.

There is an SX3 demo shipping with new Steiny products, but you have to have the dongle already to use it.

Stay away from SL3 for a bit, too many problems. I did just pick up a copy of SL 1 on ebay for 50.00. I've seen LOTS of SL for sale lately.

I've been running SX3 with the latest patch for a little over a month now with no issues. Have people been having problems with SL3? I would think it's more stable, not less.

The impression I get from the forum is that many, many people are having problems with the midi and audio timing being out of sync. Others have problems with just the midi timing being out of whack.

Would you mind telling what the specs are on your machine? I want to upgrade, but I'm a little fearful at this point.

Well, right now I'm on a dual Xeon 3.2GHz with 2GB of RAM and an Ultra320 SCSI RAID 5 array with 6 72GB drives. My audio interface is a MOTU 828mkII. All that aside, I was running it fine on my Athlon64 3500+ with 1GB of dual-channel DDR400 and SATA RAID 0 as well. I have never had a single timing problem. Keep in mind, I have not run it without the 3.01 patch.

Thanks.

One more question: Are you using hardware mainly? or soft synths?

yes, it's the same problem for me.

"The impression I get from the forum is that many, many people are having problems with the midi and audio timing being out of sync" - Cubase is one of those programs that you can't just install and expect it to work right away and that's why there's a manual for it, larger than all the religious books together ;-) It's so big for a reason. Read it. Too many people are too lazy to do just that and stop complaining about MIDI timing out of sync. There are also numerous tweaks for windows that could help taming it, too [ www.tweakxp.com ]. To cut the long story short: there's a few options in "devices>devices setup" you should be familiar with and tweak them according to your system. It is all well documented even in Help file.
