For what it's worth, I've had a FL STudio license now for over a year & never really used it. I updated when 5 came out & still never used it. Maybe it was this giant gushing sound that hit me everytime I opened FL's up, like it saved it's sample buffer or something..I never figured it out or even tried really, it really irritated me so I just said f**k it.

These days, I'm not so happy with Orion, so maybe I'll try FL at some point. Does anyone have any idea what or why that would happen what I described? It's like this cacaphony that plays real fast from the last song for about 2 seconds that was in FL when it was last loaded..

VitaminD wrote:I have no desire to bash either host.. :) I was just curious to how FL does the piano roll.. I havent tried it in a long while..

but in orion its just click anywhere in the note box (even at the end) and it automatically snaps the entire box... left click anywherein the box and the note is gone.. so quick and simple for me.

then again.. I sequence completely by hand (or is that by mouse) and I've been called strange on occasion.. :hihi:
im a hand sequencer myself.. love it that way :D i also have midi controllers and keyboards, but i do most of it by hand.. FL is great at this, ill have to try orion again sometime. i think i last tried it at 4.7 ?

nice that its not bashing :D

is there a startup sound associated with FL for some reason? that does sound like a buffer issue though... like its trying to release all info still stored in the buffer quickly but is also playing it back through your speakers.. :o what is your audio card/interface?

I'll take a peek once FL trial is done downloading.. in about ..2 hours :(

another cool thing I forgot to mention is that FLS has onion-skinning with the piano roll. By that I mean you can see other patterns that you've made in the background while you are making a new pattern. Makes it easier to see harmonic or melodic contours in your other parts (or to quickly see where important beats are in your drum pattern, etc).

I use FL Studio - I have got Orion Pro - But FL Studio Producer is the one I use, and enjoy - coz its quick to pick up, and get tunes made in.

And I like the piano roll - plus all the small details that together make it into one heck of a power package.

again, not to over-represent FL, but theres also TONS of cool context tools and tips and things you can do, it is just very flexible... (note scaling for instance SHIFT+click drag) pretty cool :D

Post

ahh... left click to enter a note, right click to kill it, hold down ctrl for the lasso-select tool... ahhh the ease of FL..

seperate snap settings for playlist, piano roll, and global..
