My point is that the company you are referring to has a very special deal with HP, including giving them custom made equipment. That has nothing to do with "normal" music equipment.

you guys have gotten off the subject
macs are better for music/video editing/2D things
PCs are better for 3D rendering/graphics/3d gaming

since this is a gaming thread i'll point out that only about 20% of the games released for PC are released for mac, this is bc macs are not really a gaming market...and it's always been like this...one is not better than the other.....each one just has a different skillset.....i am not sure why someone who reads this board and does music would not be interested in technology and gaming...but that's neither here nor there...the point is both systems are good but different

Hardware have nothing to do in wich is better for. Only the software and the ppl brains create the software is the key to see what's better for. In example: Retro Studios wrote Metroid Prime for Gamecube wich is a way lower/older system in terms of raw power than any recent Mac or PC, anyway, they managed to make a game wich kick the ass imho the whole army of Doom 3's and Half-Life 2's (best rated last year by Gamespot btw), running at hardcore solid 60FPS.

There're crap musicians using Mac and genious ones using PC probably, and viceversa, and in every aspect also. There's no reason to create a state of the art game in any recent Mac, beside the excuses.

I agree.

Did anyone play Doom 3 , I did'nt enjoy it much! Half life 2 now that was good.

Why are macs supposedly better for 2D applications? Illustrator, flash, photoshop - how are these superior on the mac? They're exactly the same. And for 2D animation there are more PC based products available.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

And Reaktor run better on a mac. Everybody knows that
Also Mac users who where using ProTools on dual CPU stopped long time ago to compare their performance with the Win side... Performances were too good.

Now that's real 2D which concerns us...Music 2D
:hihi:

For those who say Mac is better for audio - have you guys looked at the plugins we have that you dont, developers are doing that for a reason :)

Thing is that Mac have a little work to do now to fill the gap.
I'm confident that they will work at it and maybe in a few years (maybe) mac will be again a little more powerfull, and a few years later again PC wil be more powerfull and again and again...

Do you know how much share Bill Gates have in his Apple departement ??? :hihi: He certainly don't want to fall under the trust law and will manage to play with us a long time...

IN WHO'S UNIVERSE?
was joking...

with this statement:

PCs are better for 3D rendering/graphics/3d gaming
So i'm afraid that nowadays what is left to run better on a Mac are things like Word processor...

imo it goes down to feel and mac looks more clean which is plus for layout-related work, at least for e.g. fireworx - but soon there's any coding involved - e.g. flash i'd fleat to the *dark side* immediately. not to mention 3d.

edit: except for maybe c4d :hihi:

Rather subjective... I find Mac menus and such butt-ugly and unclear.

I'm forced to cope with macs when editing our video stuff. The edit room shitbox crashes at least once per session, is slow and there's no scrollwheel and one button missing from the mouse so usability is pisspoor.

The huge flatscreens and cases are pretty cool looking, though.

There is another point here. Pcs are easily expandable, want to increase your gfx performance? no problem - just drop in the latest and greatest from Nvidia or ATI. Macs are designed to be easier to keep running so its harder to get the latest hardware with OSX drivers. This is what separates the two machines. Ease of use out of the box vs expandability.

That's right, Dreamworks risk deadlines worth millions of dollars because HP slip 'em a few free computers. Are you insane!?! And, of course, Apple never did any deals with anyone aver their computers and software, did they?
You guys are using the F-word alot aren't you?
Not nearly as much as I do in normal conver-f**king-sation.

Actually, in my experience HP workstations are awesome and great value compared to a G5. For the same money you get insane performance and their new generation boxes are unbelievably quiet. HP/Compaq desktops are a whole 'nuther thing but their workstation business is very impressive.

Pig's arse! The video cards they come with are total krap for any kind of graphics work. The're just mid-range gaming cards. If they were serious they'd have workstation cards.

Pig's arse again! Why the f**k do applications suddenly blanch-out when you're using them? Or disappear off one side of the screen for no reason? Why do I usually have to hover my mouse for several seconds when I want to bring up the dock but it just pops up instantly when I'm trying to click on the status bar of a running app? Its all very poorly thought-out.

As for games, I would say it is probably the fact that the game is developed to run under DirectX and ported to Mac where it has to use OpenGL on video cards that are designed for DirectX and have very average OpenGL drivers.
