I will buy a Mac for what it's doing best: Running LogicPro that is (unfortunately not Logic 7 yet, but that's another story). In terms of performance (not exactly audio wise, but CPU wise) it seems to be the most efficient thing there is.

I will buy (or keep) my PCs for what they're doing best: Running all the sheer amount of freebie VST(i)s and WaveLab (which still seems to have no equivalent on the Mac side of things).
And doing office and file organisation stuff (I just hate the finder and all window related things on OSX).
Well, maybe also for some gaming, but right now I don't have a single game installed on any of my machines.

It's that easy.

imo it goes down to feel and mac looks more clean which is plus for layout-related work, at least for e.g. fireworx - but soon there's any coding involved - e.g. flash i'd fleat to the *dark side* immediately. not to mention 3d.

Subjective indeed. I feel exactly the opposite.

I'm forced to cope with macs when editing our video stuff. The edit room shitbox crashes at least once per session, is slow and there's no scrollwheel and one button missing from the mouse so usability is pisspoor.

Do yourself a favor. Download Cocktail, buy TTP4, do some system maintenance, and get a USB mouse. Spend a couple troubleshooting hours on a saturday afternoon, and $100 bucks of your company's money. You'll be happy you did. (BTW you can PM me, if you need any troubleshooting tips)

My Mac crashes once a century. Apps crash, but the OS never goes down. And its been that way since 10.2.

The huge flatscreens and cases are pretty cool looking, though.

Well I'm one for substance over style, but I'll admit, they do catch the eye when you walk in my studio!

Pig's arse again! Why the f**k do applications suddenly blanch-out when you're using them? Or disappear off one side of the screen for no reason? Why do I usually have to hover my mouse for several seconds when I want to bring up the dock but it just pops up instantly when I'm trying to click on the status bar of a running app? Its all very poorly thought-out.

Well, keep in mind that Redmond has about a seven year head start over Cupertino, in terms of maturity of their current OS, and way more resources, to boot.

OS X has some flaws, yes, but its come a mighty long way in just four years. And Windows has its fair share of flaws too.

But in reality, the rest is just a matter of preference. I can't think of anything I can do in one OS that's a pain to do in the other (well I can think of a few things, in both directions, but that's besides the point). I prefer the Mac OS. You prefer Windows. Can we leave it at that?

The explain to me then, why, an Athlon FX 55 or Athlon 4000+, running at a real clock of 2.6ghz and 2.4ghz respectively, absolutely trounce even a P4 3.8ghz in most game benchmarks, including doom3?

Why can't they just f**king admit it's shit coding or something, instead of all the continual excuses?

Amd chipset's have a few extra instruction set's which graphic card makers take advantage of in order to accelerate games. Amd decided a long time ago to aim at the gamers market rather than intels proffessional user base and so have talored thier chipsets accordenly.

It's all the better when one of your development partners is Nvidea who just happen to make graphic cards as well as writing the drivers .

Errr, why the hell are Macs supposed to be better for music? I hear people say this crap all the time but they never provide any hard facts as to why.

My opinion is that many musicians/artists are ludites at heart and Apple's clever marketing has convinced them that Macs are easier, more stable and cooler to use than PCs. This may have been true a few years ago but the gap has closed.

BTW, all of my friends with Macs have far worse stability problems with OSX than I do under XP Pro. This is based on "real world" observation and not advertising hype.

If you prefer a Mac thats fine. Just don't make some lame statement to justify your preference.

I think once upon a time it was true. Mac's were the business. My uncle is a graphic designer, and when he had his own company he worked on Mac's solely.

But when I asked him if it was worth getting a Mac, he told me it wasn't. He said that most of the software he uses was ported to the PC, and as such, Mac's lost their stranglehold.

Now I never let that make up my mind. What has made up my mind are the experiences I have had with Mac's - I find them clunky, hard to work with in terms of ergonomics, and generally just not user friendly for me.

But this is a stupid argument. Its all about what you like, forget what the other person is using, it doesn't matter!!
