hey all....

Im in the market for a nice multitimbral Rompler. It seems that some of the best currently available are:

Sonik Synth 2
Ultra Focus
Sampletank 2

Ive tried the demos of SS2 and Ultra Focus and they are both impressive but as far as UF goes I think I already have enough good sounding synths. SS2 sounds great, is seemingly low on cpu and seems to offer a bit more of a sonic pallette to work with because it has some acoustic waveforms as well.

I currently use Reaktor Sessions, Wusikstation, and Lounge Lizard 2. Drums are covered by Stylus RMX and TONS of samples.

What do you guys think? Any other Romplers I should consider? Sonik Synth 2 owners opinions?

I wasn't too fond of Sampletank 2, and I just sold it. I guess I'd classify it as a great general sound module, especially for those without a solid sound palette. But what I found is that in every sound category, I had another synth that I preferred.

You may want to try Ravity, as its designed after the nature of the hardware ROMplers. But keep that in mind, since it won't sound like a 5GB sample library. It rather reminds me of a late 90's or early 00's Roland synth.

I swear on Edirol Super Canvas in connection with HQ Orchestral and Super Quartet.

Those are so resource friendly and remember me on the good old GM Rompler traditions (you can also play any average MIDI file with it and satisfying results).

... and you never have to overload your hard disk and memory with thousands of GB sample (romple) shit.

Take a look at Kompakt. I don't use it as much as I did when I first got it, but it has some sounds that aren't in SS1 (which I have) or other sample sets.

It has its down-sides, like limited MIDI control, annoying patch/bank loading, etc, but I really like the sounds.

Hi all.
New here (and still rather new at this in general) but I for one LOVED what I heard from IK, and just plunked down $$$ for the SampleTank 2XL / Amplitude package. (gulp) lot's 'o money, but after wading around a pile of "freebies" and demos, and such, I felt comfortable with getting this package. My hope is that for me at least, I will be able to do quite a lot with just these... probably dreaming, but what the heck!

So far .. so good!

I am looking into Kompakt because (1) its only $129 if you have one of the sample sets with built in Kompakt Players, and (2) it plays back Kontakt samples (without sample editing features that I do not think I would use).

I am just concerned that it really plays Kontakt instruments as well as Kontakt (but, without the additional flexbility used by "power users").

If we are talking best overall library that covers all bases...Sonik Synth 2 is the only choice. It has everything, and not only that...so much of it is great!! Pianos, Keyboards, Synths galore, Guitars, Drums, Basses. There is very little that is not covered. The core libraries in other synths cannot compete to the sheer variety...it's really not even close. It has loads of effects that you can stack, plus the ability to layer patches to your hearts content.

I have both Sampletank 2 and now Sonik Synth 2. The best thing is that IK/SR treat you well when it comes to upgrades. You will get deals on Sampletank 2, and then Studiophonik and Philharmonik when they are released. Count me in for the whole suite!!

Some of you need to read what people ask for before blindly suggesting things that do not meet their needs. Please tell me how Atmosphere and Wusik fit his needs. Last time I checked, Atmosphere doesn't have a single acoustic patch (It doesn't...I own it), and Wusik focuses on digital and analog synths.

Proteus X. It's the cheapest. Has good filters and tweakability...and oh yeah, it is the cheapest. Well, ten bucks more than ravity for three times the number or patches. I like it a lot because a rompler is a rompler is a rompler is a rompler. None are really better than any other unless you get into extremely expensive sample CDs.

Need a Rompler....
