That's cool - can you point me to the test? I'm interesting in reading it and learning more about the evaluation! Thanx
He can't because this is a total troll post.
Nope, I remember reading that at the UAD forum as well. Anyone having that Tape Op issue?
If I remember right the test was done by BF and was a commercial in the mag, not an actual test done BY the mag.

The Tape Op thing was about the roll-off that the UAD was exhibiting, which was a secondary issue to the test.

That is my recollection of that situation.

In a recent test the Bombfactory Pultec was choosen above the UAD and even above a Pultec hardware clone. Also the Bombfactory Fairchild sounds better then the UAD in my opinion.
Where's this test? Who performed it? Who were the candidates? Was it blind? Did the candidates ever have any clue on what they were listening to? On what basis were the winners "chosen?" In other words, were the winners chosen based on transparency, accuracy to the orginals (all of which sound different), general preference, etc.? Who made this Pultec "clone?" Fisher-Price?? If ANY plugin was chosen over it, it probably was in fact built by Fisher-Price.

That's my gay ol' donkey hugger.
Sorry. That's not getting funny by reading it over and over again.

Actually Bomb Factory is a developer of TDM/RTAS plugs. And they did in fact have these emulations for PT before UAD came out. The troll wars on the UAD board were some of the best threads ever. Ahhh *sniff* the good'ol days. The president of BF is a very colorful fellow hehehehehe.

About that test. It was not done by Bombfactory, but 5 or 6 producers in a blind test.

Because I don't want to hurt you: the UAD LA2A and the 1176 where chosen as better then Bombfactory.

Thanks, SJ_Digriz. I was actually referring to the hardware clone. I think it's actually pretty laughable when comparing any plugin to a something like a hardware Pultec, decent clone or otherwise. I've auditioned just about everything out there (not including URS or the Tritone stuff) and so far have NOT been impressed at all. I'm either spoiled or just haven't "warmed up" to digital eq yet. Pun intended.

As 007 mentioned earlier, the test was the one in which the UAD1176LN was chosen over the hardware one by 5 out of 5 producers in a blind test.

I have that Tape Op issue at home. Can't recall the details, but I remember it was a split decision, with some picking the hardware in some comparisons, some picking the BF in other comparisons, and some picking the UAD in still other comparisons.

It was a blind preference test.

Post

4 out of 5, if I remember well, for the Bombfactory Pultec.

Hehe, were these "producers" pregnant women in labor while participating in the test? I guess all those big studios should sell all of their hardware 1176's, Pultecs, Fairchilds, etc. in favor of MUCH less expensive UAD-1 and Bombfactory emulations?? Even though this could save them quite a bit of money, especially in today's industry, I don't see this happening any time soon.

The preceeding statements had a higher-than-average sarcasm level. Currently, this level indicator is reading about 7.5 on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most sarcastic measurement.

hehe, its no prob. I don't care one way or the other. I don't have PT so its always been a useless argument.

But correct me if I'm wrong. Wasn't all the Pultec arguments about the rolloff?

Overall soundquality. I can't remember that the 1176 was chosen above the real thing as someone states.

ahhhh, I agree by the way. ESPECIALLY on the EQ front. You still can't touch a good channel strip. Hell a mediochre channel strip for that matter.

To my ears the Tritone Hydratone is the first software eq that can stand a test with a hardware eq.
