Sampletank 2 Outputs...AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

Hey folks -

I'll keep this quick...

I want to use ST2 (or ST1LE) as a live sequencer at gigs to run strings, pads, etc. The only way I can isolate each sound so that the sound guy can EQ/pan them independently is to load one instance per SONAR track to a different output of my Aardvark Q10 soundcard. I know ST2 has an "Out" column on the interface, but if I change it to anything except 1+2, I don't hear anything.

I thought there was a way to load multiple sounds into one instance of ST2 AND still retain the ability to isolate each sound (well, at least 5 stereo sounds, since I have 10 channels). What am I missing here?

This is the same thing I run into if I convert a ST midi track into an audio track. I have to use one instrument per instance so that I can EQ/compress/mix everything separately when I convert the tracks.

Can anybody help me here? It seems silly to have one stereo output that has drum loops, strings, pads, organs, etc. and expect to mix it properly.

Thanks,
Chris

I don't use SONAR, but in eXT I can use (and hear!) all 4 outputs. Not sure if it's a SONAR problem, but if you change the subject heading to include SONAR, maybe someone will notice (until SR comes online ;) )

caminiti: Load ST up and click the PREFS button then make the slider for the outputs all the way up to 15+16.

now start a new Sonar session and go to Inserts > DXI synth, Load ST up when you do choose ALL Ouputs and this will give you many outputs.

Now you can tell ST where you want the sound to be routed to.

Another avenue to check is if you are using ST as a DXi or a VSTi. As a VSTi you should have no problem with multiple outs within Sonar.

With the DXi implementation, I am not sure if the DXi rev 2 protocalls have been implemented to allow multiple outs. (This was the case at least with the early versions of ST - may have been updated in recent ST updates - Not sure because I haven't opened Sonar in quite awhile.)

Thanks for your input, Jason (and everybody else). Unfortunately, either I don't exactly understand what to do, or there's a problem on my end.

Here's exactly what I did: I loaded ST2, under PREFS, slid the OUTPUTS NUMBER slider all the way up to 15+16. Then, I restarted SONAR (2.2 XL). I assigned a random midi track to ST2 channel 1 and I could ONLY hear it if the OUT on that channel was set to 1+2. The only difference now is that I can toggle all the way from 1+2 up to 15+16, but, again, I only hear the sound when it's on 1+2.

The only part of Jason's post that I didn't understand was to set ST2 to "choose ALL OUTPUTS". Please elaborate on that, if you can. Another thing that's puzzling is that my Aardvark Q10 only has 10 inputs/outputs (2 are digital), so why should I even be able to go up to 15+16? How do I route the outputs of the ST2 into the inputs of my Q10? Do I need to set something up on the Q10 Control Panel?

All I want to be able to do is set 4 different patches to 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 so I can mix them separately. I must be doing something wrong. If it helps any further, I'm using the DX version, and I'm using the MME drivers with the Q10 (they were the quickest and most stable for my set up).

Thanks.....AGAIN..... :help:

I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I NEVER knew that there was a different dialog box for the Synth Rack, then simply right clicking on an audio track and adding a DXi. I checked All Synth Outputs, and figured it out from there.

NOW I CAN TOUR THE LOCAL SCENE IN STYLE!!!! I LOVE THE WORLD!!!!!!!

Thanks to everybody!!!!!!!!!

And this is usually the response people get after they've had a little help from Jason. :D (his IK support testimonial). Thanks Jason. Good to see you come by and help in the forum when you have the time.
