I always use FL Studio to compose my whole songs, and I love it. BUT now that I want to buy a hardware synth, I was considering using FL as a vst within Cubase, for example.

Anyone use FL as a vst within another host? does it maintain all its functions and is it easy to sequence what you compose in FL with the other tracks you may compose in the other sequencer?

(I mean, what I'm interested in is, write all the vst melodies in FL as I always do, then open that project as a vst within Cubase and record the audio parts in Cubase and sequence them with what I previously composed in Fl)
easy and rewarding?

Im also wondering that, why dont you try it out, just a test song or something. Im not really sure how a host works as a plugin but Id like to know out of curiousity

imo it doesn't work very well AT ALL.

Don't get me wrong, I like FL Studio a lot, it's a great virtual studio.

The problem is that count-in crap. You have a choice of either shifting your entire song ahead by a bar or so in order for FL Studio to compensate.

You can set the count-in to 0. But then you get missed notes on the 3rd beat on the first bar.

I would suggest Re-Wire over VST if you want to use Fruity that way. FL's ReWire functionality is very good.

I use FL5 within Sonar as a DXi, and it works flawlessly. I stayed away from the Rewire route because I don't like how Rewire requires you to shut-down apps in a very particular order (it's just one more technical detail that gets in the way).

FL within Sonar has just worked for me. Someone else mentioned a "count-in" problem, but I never had that problem.

prolly cause ure using sonar to sequence and using FL mostly as a sound module ? Im still extremely new to FL. So i need to figure a lot out. But i did a drum pattern sequnce in FL and then loaded it as a VSTi. It was very bad.

yes, i used FL Studio in Cubase LE. i really love it and do it exactly as you describe. i usually compose my drums and synth/strings parts in fruity, then load that thing up in Cubase. i also edit in Fruity while in Cubase and have never had a problem. pretty killer setup for me. good luck.

yes I'm interested in using FL as a vst within Cubase SL. But i still have to get familiar with cubase...

I want this set up cos I'm going to buy a hardware synth and I guess I'll want to use Cubase for it, more suitable than FL I think.

I've tried using FL in cubase as a VST and as while using rewire. I had hellish problems with both.

While using rewire, the sound was glitchty (popping and stuttering) and was unusable. The VST quality was better but BUT there's really no way to get good control of FL from Cubase. I didn't want to play FL in song mode but rather I wanted to change patterns in FL from cubase. BUT despite their suggestions that it's possible to do, it currently doesn't work when your in VST mode.

damn, that's a pity, cos my intention was not to stop using FL and so using it within another host was the perfect solution...

I use FL5 as a VST in Cubase 3.0-works like a charm for me...
But like above, I'm using FL as a kind of "Grand-Super VST modual/ SubHost"..
Most of my .wav recording gets done in Cubase, But still-- I can dump these into FL to process/enhance further.

IMO FL5/Cubase 3.x represents a sublime Uberhost.
Add to that eXT & well...................

Well I would compose all melodies in vst synths in FL and all audio recordings from hardware synths in Cubase and blend them. do you think it will work perfect?

Should work great!- My advice tho'..Do avoid the Rewire version. I just think the whole Rewire concept is a terribly unelegant& bloated solution.

VST, OTOH- Is like a laser cut puzzle piece; fit's perfectly.

I used to use FL as a vsti in sonar, but the count in/delay thing was a nightmare.

Now I use FL Rewired in Sonar and it is superb. Every track I do now has FL in rewire for drums, suits me down to the ground, no problems whatsoever. The only hassle is structuring your tune in 2 environments at once but its not a big deal.
