Hello again,
I know its much related to my previous post, but is a seperate issue I feel, and so warrented a new thread...
Anyway, on the Nuendo forums, people haev been talking about the new 'sonoma' based laptops, and the PCI express chipset they contain. *Apparently* this is really bad for audio, but great for other apps (gaming etc).
Is this true? Should I avoid the Acer travelmate 8100 series as they employ this new chipset? If so, this would be a real shame, as the laptop I have my eye on has a nice spec to it fpr the price.
Its only these rumours that are putting me off

I got loads of useful help last time I poseted, I prayt you all can be as helpful again!

Computers are not an investment. They go out of date in 3 months in which time people get paranoid over compatabilites lol

What about this machine? Ive been hearing good things about the Athlon mobile chips, is this one? Is this the fastest mobile athlon I could get?

There's more than one kind of investment U-JV - a workman typically must < invest > in tools and charge more than enough for his work to cover the cost of maintaining that set of tools. To give a music related example - someone is doing mobile recording for bands and intends to use a laptop as a DAW set up for the task. The initial purchase of computer, software and audio interface is an investment which he or she hopes to more than recoup from the work it will be used for.

Why would a pci-e based chipset be bad for audio???

I got a PCI-E chipset both for the graphics capabilities and so it didn't compete with my two PCI soundcards (Creamware). It's a different system with much higher bandwidth so why should there be an issue with audio?

I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe with a PCI-E graphics card and haven't had any problems with audio. If anything my Athlon64 3200+ is slowing things down.

maybe laptop is a different thing than an ATX motherboard?

Sorry if I seemed less than helpful but there are people who sell laptops just for audio - Red Submarine is one. These people will be accountable for any problems you find. If you ask people on here, no one is accountable if you are given misleading/confusing advice and buy something unsuitable.
