Alright, before I break down and get a Peterson VS-II strobe, are there any VST tuners that work properly at the 96k sample rate?

I'm using Logic 5.5.1 for windows, doing all of my work at 24/96, and I need something that tracks quickly - the tuner in my PODxt is great but I don't want to keep repatching every time I need a quick tune-up during a heavy tracking session.

And I'd like to be able to use it on mic'd sources as well...

... and something besides C-Tuner and K-Tuner - C-Tuner is useless at 96k and K-Tuner freezes up my system in Logic...

My thinking is I'm pretty much S.O.L. and a VS-II permanently patched into my setup is probably the best way to go, but a last ditch effort for a much cheaper solution can't hurt.

Any thoughts?

I use Nuton Tuner-EX but I've never tried it at that rate...

Let me do so and I'll get back to you presently.

Seems to work fine. They have a demo available, so you can try for yourself, but it works for me.

Has anyone ever checked the accuracy of these software tuners?

Do they generally depend on the samplerate accuracy of your computer?

How accurate is the samplerate of a "typical" audio interface?

For example, do we really know that our 96,000 rate really isn't closer to 96,001?

Finally, does anyone here rely on a central Cesium wordclock?

in theory yes, but so does any VSTi's, so everything will be in tune relative

How accurate is the samplerate of a "typical" audio interface?

Most are accurate to about 0.001%. 1 to 10 samples off can make for technical problems but really not pitch-perceptual problems.

any pitch deviation this small (well under under 1/10 of a *cent*) can't really be argued over for too long in a musical discussion.

I think the biggest problem I run across is tuner misuse...

...check the tuning while playing the notes/frets you are about to record, not the open strings unless they are getting played. (many guitars have serious intonation problems, often in part due to the player). I've witnessed people tune their guitar to open strings, ask to be recorded, and then go in to a solo above the 12th fret like 40 cents sharp....
