Just watched this flick called 'Ravenous' about early settler cannibalism in the Sierra Nevadas in the mid 19th century starring Guy Pierce. The movie was as lame as watching feces dry - but Michael Nyman and someone else did the soundtrack, and it was REALLY COOL! :D I've always heard Michael Nyman's name and/or have heard him with David Cunningham and others as a 'session player'. But he did a unique a haunting soundtrack for this period piece of.... :-o

Another movie that blew chunks, but amazing soundtrack... Sorceror w/music by Tangerine Dream.
Long before Thief and Risky Business, this ill fated remake of Wages Of Fear by William Freidkin utilised the BEST soundtrack ever by Tangerine Dream IMO.

And one other - and it's actually a cool B movie... Phantom Of The Paradise. Paul WIlliams was a little genius with all the songs on that soundtrack I thought. Like it much better than 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'. ;)

So what are your B- Flicks with A+ soundtracks?

Nyman used to do soundtracks for Peter Greenaway quite frequently as well. It was a good marriage while it lasted.

The company I worked for distributed this steaming turd of an artschool wankfest called 'La Vie nouvelle' that had an AMAZING soundtrack by Etant Donnes.

One Peter Greenaway film that Nyman didn't do the soundtrack to was Belly of an Architect - this was done by Wim Mertens - highly recommended, and the film's pretty good too.

if you can find it give a listen to the soundtrack from 'The Beast'-Mark Isham(sp?) did a nice one. not a bad movie either.

i saw solaris a while ago and while - as a film - it's pretty darned boring and slow (to me) the soundtrack was good enough to make me want to watch it all. i think the soundtrack is the main focus of that film, whether it was intended or not.

[edit - the george clooney version]
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for Peter Greenway films! The eye I lost last night watching Ravenous - I'll never do that again... But it was a darn good soundtrack. ;)

Me too!

Post

damon alburn from blur was the other guy on the ravenous soundtrack - far as i know

Post

Oh Har - how could you? :-o It was so dry to start, picked up around the cave bit, the little mystery 'who dunnit' back at the outpost was slightly intriguing, then it just dropped into a bad Anne Rice story without Tom Cruise.

Post

Less than zero, shite film. had slayer (doing 'in a gadda da vidda' :-o ), public enemy and a rather fine track from the bangles on the soundtrack though.

Post

Damon Alburn you say? COOL! 8)
