Live 4.0 vs FL Studio As Main Host

I am new to computer based recording and looking at Ableton Live 4.0 or FL Studio as my main host. I am an experienced recordist (just analog) and mainly a guitarist/mad scientist/sound mangler. So I'm looking for something that will be able to handle MIDI, audio recording, and samples, all within an enviorment that is creative and EASY... Something that will actually PROMOTE the creative process, not stifle it. Any input/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I was wonder if there is actually any "sound quality" issues between hosts (ie, Live, FL Studio, Cubase, ProTools, etc.). In other words, can any one software host program actually have a higher or lower sound quality than another?

Oh boy, here we go...
For audio recording, I'd steer clear of Live and FLS, and go with a more 'traditional' package like Logic or Sonar. Don't get me wrong, I own both Live and FLS, but I don't particularly like the way they handle audio recording. That's just MY opinion though, I'm sure there are others who will say they love it. My advice to you is to download the demos for both and give them a good try. That's the only way to find out for yourself which one you prefer (if any).
As far as sound quality differences between hosts, I won't even go there. Do a search and see what's been posted in the past.

a violin or a flute as main lead...
(depends a lot on the music, you know...)

either is a great choice.
as long as you use some other program to actually record your audio.
they're both better with samples.
but I used to fly in audio from cool edit pro into fruity loops all the time. it was easier than it sounds.
bet you could find a used copy of cool edit for real cheap.
so, yeah,i agree joxer.
but different strokes for different folks.
word on the street is, you'd actually seem cooler if you did everything with live4.

Don't know about Live, but I've had no problems recording single audio tracks in FL. I know people have had problems with recording many tracks at once.

Both are inspiring, certainly, and I would also check out Tracktion 2 (about to be released) which is a tad more expensive than FLS, but cheeper than Live 4. It's more a conventional linear sequencer (rather than loops) but very easy to use and great at audio recording. A nice plug-in bundle promised as well.

Yeah, I'd have to admit that this is one of the reasons that live4 is even considered. I keep running into comments like "this is the future of recording... blah blah blah" Maybe just the hype of the moment... Next year it'll be something else.bobbyblank wrote: word on the street is, you'd actually seem cooler if you did everything with live4.
Thanks for your input on recording audio.

Gotta say, Live 4 is pretty darn cool and worthy of the hype. I really like the fact that it lets me put down ideas very quickly. I must admit that I almost got rid of it when I first bought it, but once I got used to it I saw what a great program it is. As I wrote earlier, take it out for a test drive.
