No matter how much patience I tried to have, SX3 is the worst Cubase version I have ever used.
The potential is there but in a real life situation, when the client is breathing down your neck, you just can't afford the unpredictable behavior of 3.01 (and 3.0)
I understand a lot of people are happy with it and that means they don't have to deal with the crap I have to deal with.
I have been a Cubase owner for about 15 years now. A happy customer, until now.
3.0 is shelved. I am staying with 2.2 until Steinberg gets their act together.
Maybe it is that SX3 doesn't like Tyan dual Mobo, maybe the fact that I use SX with video and Quicktime is the reason. Maybe the fact that I also use FX Teleport has to do with it. Maybe it is because I bring projects from 2.2 into 3.
Whatever the reason, I got ripped off, spending money that Steinberg pocketed and never delivered on their promise of a great version.
I couldn't care less about all the extra features. Give me a stable DAW!
I'll give it a few extra months and if nothing changes, I am switching.

COuld it be their new mega-protection dongle scheme?

Honestly, I've had projects and deadlines breathing down my neck since October, so I'm in no hurry to go beyond 2.2.0.39 of Nuendo and Cubase. I've heard plenty of people that are doing well, but there are so many other factors involved. I will be spending a LOT of time with Nuendo 3 when it arrives (ordered two weeks ago - should be another before it's here), and then will go to SX 3 when I get the chance (and will probably wait until the next update to take it seriously). Since I use Cubase SX as a VSTi host that's System Linked to Nuendo, I don't really press it that much. I loved FX Teleport's concept, but never got it to working the way I would have preferred. (although dual Gigabit Ethernet between two dual-Opteron boards does sound appealing...)
I'm not going to invalidate your experience, but for my money I'd spend a LOT of time with an app before I parade it in front of a client...

Dongles are the cause of 99% of all earthly problems...........the other one percent is women.......(ooooooo let the flames begin from the female base!)sweet_trip wrote:COuld it be their new mega-protection dongle scheme?
I don't understand the whole stienborg thing, it's LOVE or HATE but they get the most attention, and the most sales. I hear more HATE than love. I have never used any version, on any computer, on any platform at any time of day and had success. Nuendo is even worse in my cases......(except it does have a 20 to 40 percent.......oh......that's an old joke sonar sucks too.)
I guess it's luck, happy that those who have it and like it do. I'd die if I paid that kind of money for something where people seem so unhappy all the time. I still get mad everytime I think of sonar, the way the company has treated it's customers and how crappy and buggy it is. 500 bucks for a coffee coaster........
rant rant rant......sorry I just am very mad at stienborg and I've gone on too long.......

Well, First off, I think you have issues & perhaps quite justified issues with personal space...I mean in this day and age the fact that there are still people in this world who insist on hovering sooo damn close to to others.. well, it really is quite uncooth!
But on the other hand, we've come a long way as a species and in general and it IS acceptible to tell, no INSIST that if someone is breathing down your neck to Please be aware that they are making us uncomfortable!!
NO, MEANS NO. AND REMEMBER, TELL AN ADULT IF SOMEONE TOUCHES YOU IN A "BAD" WAY OR MAKES YOU FEEL DIRTY!!!

Honestly, I *could* have used the ACID file support for one of my recent gigs - but in the end I opted to reduce the risk and simply use the loops in Storm 3 as a ReWire instrument (in their H3OPlus module). Having Cubase SX 3 to simply drag and drop in the original project is a nice idea but when weighed against the pressing deadline (whether or not the client is in the room is immaterial to me - it's time dropping through the hourglass) I decided to save the headache and deal with spanning the project across multiple apps. Such is life when you're under the gun.
I'm now taking some time between projects to program and do some performance testing with HALion3.1. It's something I'd never do on a project, even with the rave reviews coming in from sources I trust. It just so happens that I can take time to do this and update my demo DVD/CD and update all of my templates.
There's no way you'll ever get rid of the risk in front of a client (as long as Murphy's law and this universe exist) but there are ways to mitigate the chances of really gumming up the works. One thing I try to do is set up as many "flat" files as I can - either through freeze or through exported tracks. That way I'm reducing the likelihood that something is going to barf on me during a mixdown session in front of a director.
With that said, just two weeks ago I had a consistent problem with Nuendo 2.2 in front of the director - with flat files, a single instance of Voxengo Pristine Space and a concert hall impulse. She said "don't worry, I use Final Cut - happens to me all the time."
Then of course, as soon as she leaves, all of the problems stop, and I was able to finish the work by the time she arrived at home across town. Figures. I just uploaded the file my FTP site and she pulled it down and VIOLA! the project was done.
So sometimes, even when we are being our most cautious, things happen that leave egg on our face. For my money, time, and peace of mind - I shy away from blaming the software and focus more on "why did I try to pony that new feature in front of them when I didn't know this would work?" Chances are that they won't know enough to be impressed - and audio file playback in conjunction with their creativity (whether in a recording studio or during a film mix) is magic enough for them.

Just reading your post made me FEEL DIRTY! edit: yeah, I'm being stupid and trollish myself with this post, but there's so much negativity about Cubase on Cubase.net and dammit, I like the software... no excuse for being a jerk though, sorry about that...
my ill advised post:
yeah, I'm all for 'ranting,' but this same person posted the exact same post in the Cubase forum...
without computer specifications, exact cubase version, or even detailed descriptions of the problems...
if that isn't the definition of a 'troll,'
I don't know what is...

yep i am beggining to wonder if cubase has the worst program - the latest version of sonar shipped with over 70 bugs - and no-one even mentions it
is it cubase's position as market leader means that it attracts more trolls ?

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Maybe it has something to do with the bugs being easier to work around in sonar than in cubase
And I'm even talking about 64-bit sonar beta on 64-bit xp beta... Oh well...
